Tips to solve Connections #788
Connections gives you 16 words to divide into four groups of four based on shared themes. The groups are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, through purple, the trickiest. The New York Times notes that words may plausibly fit more than one category, so test a candidate group against the remaining words before submitting it. Each puzzle has exactly one solution. For this board, avoid locking in a word just because it seems to fit one clue. For example, the names in the tennis group are surnames, while the pointy-ear group mixes fictional characters and a mythological figure. Check that all four words satisfy the same precise category.
