Is Nine Sols worth playing?

Red Candle Games’ setting combines Taoist themes with technology; the official PlayStation description says its action and platforming require timing and strategy. Those sources support calling the game demanding, but they do not establish a single difficulty rating or prove that every player will experience the same level of challenge.

Is Nine Sols a Metroidvania or a Soulslike?
It is best understood as an action-platform game with Metroidvania exploration and Souls-like challenge, rather than as only one of those labels. Official listings surfaced for Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Red Candle Games also listed Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC Game Pass in an AMA around the Xbox launch in November 2024. That AMA establishes what the developer listed at that time, not whether the game remains in a subscription catalog today. Is Nine Sols good for fans of parry-based combat?
It is a promising match if you want parrying to be central to difficult fights rather than an occasional defensive option. The combination of timing-sensitive encounters and exploration gives players a reason to keep learning and moving through the world. If you prefer combat that lets you avoid precise deflections, the same emphasis may make the game a poor fit. The sources establish the combat focus, but do not support a detailed head-to-head ranking against other games.
