The 139-million figure is an earlier milestone, not the current total. Nintendo reports Switch 2 separately, so its sales should not be added to the original Switch figure when describing Switch sales.
How many Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold?
Nintendo’s cumulative worldwide sales page lists 156.59 million units of Nintendo Switch hardware as of June 30, 2026. This is a life-to-date total through that date, not sales during 2026 or any other single year. Nintendo’s cumulative hardware and software sales data is the official source.
The title’s 139-million figure describes a historical milestone. Nintendo’s current reported total is higher; the original date and publication context for the 139-million headline are not established here.
Hardware and software are different totals
Nintendo reports hardware units and software units separately. Software units are not consoles, and the two totals should not be combined as a measure of how many systems have sold.

How Switch 2 sales relate to the original Switch
Nintendo launched Switch 2 globally on June 5, 2025. The company reported more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units sold through worldwide in its first four days. That early launch figure is a short-period measure, while the 23.68 million figure above is Switch 2’s cumulative worldwide hardware total through June 30, 2026. Nintendo’s FY2026 first-quarter results cover the launch and quarterly reporting.

What “sold” means in Nintendo’s figures
Nintendo distinguishes between sell-through, sales to individual consumers—including retail purchases and purchases through Nintendo’s direct-sales websites—and sell-in, sales by the Nintendo group to outside entities. They describe different points in the sales chain, so a figure should be read using the measure Nintendo assigns to it. Nintendo’s FY2026 first-quarter materials explain the terms.
The same results report 0.98 million original Switch hardware units and 24.40 million Switch software units during April–June 2025. Those are quarterly figures, not lifetime totals. Nintendo also reported more than 100 million annual playing users between July 2024 and June 2025, using a definition based on Nintendo Accounts associated with Switch or Switch 2 systems that used relevant software at least once during that 12-month period; the company notes exclusions and possible retroactive revisions. That user measure is not a console sales figure. Nintendo’s results materials provide the period figures and user-count qualifications.
