Will a free-to-keep claim stay in your library?
SteamDB explains that an item claimed during a Free to Keep promotion becomes a permanent part of your Steam library. That is different from a free-to-play game, which can be played without buying it but is not necessarily a limited-time giveaway. Check the offer’s own terms, then complete the claim while it is active. SteamDB explains Free to Keep promotions.
Is the Steam Autumn Sale the same as a free-game giveaway?
No. PC Gamer reported that the 2026 Steam Autumn Sale ends October 8, but a sale deadline concerns discounted games; it does not establish that a game is free to keep. Treat sale prices and free-to-keep promotions as separate offers. PC Gamer’s report on the Autumn Sale covers the sale event.
