Hideki Kamiya is directing, CLOVERS is developing it, and Capcom is publishing it. No platform or release date has been announced.
Is an Ōkami sequel actually happening?
Yes. In a December 13, 2024 announcement, Capcom said it had begun work on an Ōkami sequel project. The original, released in 2006, is an action-adventure set in a Japanese-style world and follows Amaterasu as she seeks to bring life back to the land.
Who is making the sequel?
CLOVERS’ announcement names Hideki Kamiya as the project’s director. Kamiya is CLOVERS’ Studio Head and Chief Game Designer. CLOVERS is developing the game, and Capcom is publishing it. Capcom also says the project includes the original director and members of the original development team.
CLOVERS describes the project as continuing the series’ heartwarming story, adventure, and visuals inspired by traditional Japanese artwork. Those are the studio’s stated aims, not confirmation of specific story details or finished gameplay.

When will the Ōkami sequel release?
There is no announced release date or release window. In a 2026 report, GamesRadar+ quoted CLOVERS CEO Kento Koyama saying, “Although the release is still a ways off.” That is a general timing signal, not a date or window.
What platforms will it be on?
Capcom and CLOVERS have not announced platforms. Until they do, there are no confirmed console or PC versions to compare.

Does the teaser show gameplay?
No. CLOVERS labels the project teaser as containing no in-game footage. It should not be treated as a gameplay trailer or used to infer the sequel’s mechanics, final graphics, platforms, or story.

Yes. The original Ōkami is available in remastered editions on modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, according to GameDeveloper. Check local listings for the edition and current availability. Capcom reported in 2023 that Ōkami and Ōkamiden had sold more than four million copies combined; that figure covers those existing games, not the sequel.
