In response to concerns about its terms and privacy materials, the Once Human team said on July 10, 2024, that personal-data collection varies with how players use its services and that government-issued IDs would be requested only for certain legally required purposes. The team also said it would delete ID information immediately after the stated purpose was fulfilled; that is the company’s assurance, not independently verified deletion behavior.
Why Once Human’s privacy terms drew concern
Players raised concerns about the breadth and presentation of personal-information categories in Once Human’s EULA and privacy materials. GamesRadar reported that negative Steam reviews focused on those documents and that the team intended to improve how it described its data practices. That report does not establish how many players shared the concerns or that every listed data category applies to every player. GamesRadar’s coverage
The official FAQ says the personal-data types collected “will vary according to each player’s specific interactions with our services.” In practice, the categories relevant to a player may depend on which services or features they use; the FAQ does not say that every player provides every type of information. What the developers said about government IDs
In its July 10, 2024 FAQ, the Once Human team said government-issued ID information would be collected only for specific purposes required by local law. Its examples included certain prize distributions, parental identity checks where legally required, and age corrections where legally required. The FAQ says the information would be deleted immediately after the purpose for collecting it was fulfilled. These are the team’s stated policy and assurance; the cited materials do not independently verify how ID collection or deletion works in practice. Official FAQ

What the team said about data handling
In a separate announcement on July 10, 2024, the team said it would use personal data on a legitimate legal basis and follow data-minimization, purpose-limitation, and transparency principles. Those statements describe the company’s commitments, not the findings of an independent audit. The team also said the privacy policy had been revised and would be published soon; the available materials do not establish the precise change history between that announcement and the policy currently linked from the FAQ.
