The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched on April 22, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on August 11, 2026.
When did Oblivion Remastered come out?
Bethesda announced the game as available on April 22, 2025. Xbox Wire gave the same launch date and platform lineup. The original “next week” wording is now outdated; the game is not awaiting a new release next week. Bethesda’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s launch report confirm the 2025 release.
The Switch 2 edition arrived later, on August 11, 2026. Bethesda announced that date on June 30, then confirmed availability on launch day. The current official page also notes a September 17, 2026 patch addressing crashes and gameplay issues. Bethesda’s Switch 2 announcement and the Switch 2 launch page provide those updates.
What platforms can you play it on?
The original 2025 release was for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Xbox Wire lists PC availability through Steam and the Xbox App for Windows PC, along with cloud availability and Xbox Play Anywhere entitlements. Game Pass was also part of the launch announcement; catalog availability can change, so check the current service and your region before subscribing for this game specifically.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version is a separate, later platform release. Bethesda lists handheld performance at 900p/30 FPS and docked performance at 1080p/30 FPS, plus touchscreen support, HD Rumble, gyro aiming, motion controls, DLSS anti-aliasing and GameChat. These are Bethesda’s stated specifications and features, not independent performance test results.
Is it a remake or a remaster?
Bethesda’s official name is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda Game Studios said at launch: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” The studio says work began in 2021 with Virtuos, retaining the original’s core while updating its presentation and systems. Bethesda Game Studios’ launch statement explains that distinction.

Xbox Wire describes the visual treatment as Unreal Engine 5 alongside the original Creation Engine game core. It also reports changes to the HUD, menus and map, leveling and encumbrance, enemy scaling, autosaves, accessibility and first- and third-person cameras. Those are publisher-reported implementation details, rather than findings from an independent technical analysis.

The standard edition includes the base game, the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions, and additional DLC. On Switch 2, Bethesda describes the standard edition as digital. It also identifies a physical Deluxe Edition cartridge containing the full base game, expansions and DLC. The Switch 2 Deluxe Edition adds digital Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon armor, weapon and horse-armor sets. Physical stock and the exact SKU can vary by territory, so check the local retailer listing before purchasing.
