The rumor that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would arrive during the week of April 21 was broadly right: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched on April 22, 2025. Bethesda called it a remaster, not a remake. It later came to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026.
When did Oblivion Remastered release?
Bethesda announced the game’s availability on April 22, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, including through Game Pass. That date falls within the week beginning April 21, so the prediction in the original headline was accurate about the release window, though it did not identify the exact launch date. The official pages cited here do not identify the insiders behind the original prediction or establish their exact wording. The result can be checked without attributing the prediction to a particular person: Bethesda’s dated launch post confirms the game was available April 22.
Was it a remake or a remaster?
Bethesda Game Studios described the project as a remaster. Bethesda said development began in 2021 and highlighted refreshed art, animation, effects, recorded voices, game systems, and leveling. Bethesda’s launch announcement describes Standard and Deluxe editions as digital base games. Both include Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and additional DLC. Bethesda describes the Switch 2 Standard edition as a digital base game with Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and listed DLC. A physical Deluxe Edition is also available: Bethesda says its cartridge contains the full base game, with those expansions and DLC, plus digital bonus armor and weapons. Nintendo says the Switch 2 version uses Unreal Engine 5 and highlights enhanced visuals, sprinting, recreated combat animations and effects, an overhauled third-person perspective, and a redesigned leveling system, alongside other quality-of-life changes.
