Nintendo of America asked a California federal court on April 18, 2025, to issue a subpoena requiring Discord to identify the account GameFreakOUT. Nintendo alleged that the account posted infringing material on a Discord server called FreakLeak. The filing is a request with a proposed subpoena attached; the records reviewed do not establish whether it was issued, served, or answered.

Who Nintendo is trying to identify

The account named in Nintendo’s filing is GameFreakOUT, identified in the proposed subpoena by Discord user ID 1294732540057227357. Nintendo said the account had posted material on the FreakLeak Discord server that infringed Pokémon copyrights. That is Nintendo’s allegation in its request, not a court finding about the account or the person behind it.

Nintendo sought information sufficient to identify the account holder, including names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, IP addresses, or other identifying information within Discord’s control. The filing does not disclose the account holder’s real identity.

What Nintendo asked the court to do

On April 18, 2025, Nintendo of America filed a request under 17 U.S.C. § 512(h) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. It asked the clerk to issue and sign a proposed DMCA subpoena directed to Discord. Nintendo said it wanted the information to protect its rights under the Copyright Act. The filing does not establish that Nintendo would bring a lawsuit afterward.

The proposed subpoena listed May 7, 2025, as a production date. That date appears in the proposal; it does not show that a subpoena was actually issued, served, or that Discord produced anything. The court filing is the primary record for what Nintendo requested.

What the Pokémon Teraleak reportedly contained

Contemporary reporting dates the Teraleak to October 2024 and describes it as a breach or leak involving data from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company. Reports said the material included older Pokémon game content, information about future projects, and personal information related to Game Freak employees. Those are reported descriptions rather than a verified inventory in the court filing.

GameSpot reported that Nintendo’s filing described GameFreakOUT as posting 1 terabyte of data from Game Freak’s internal servers. That is GameSpot’s account of the filing, not an independently established forensic measurement. The filing itself names Pokémon Legends: Arceus as an example of a copyrighted game; it does not allege that the game was the source of the leak.

What is known about the case now

The filing and contemporaneous coverage establish that Nintendo requested a subpoena. The records reviewed do not confirm whether the clerk issued it, whether Discord was served or complied, whether Nintendo obtained identifying information, or whether a later case was filed against the account holder. Those outcomes therefore remain unresolved in the available record.
