Those reports do not prove that every user will be banned, reveal how Nintendo detects use, or show that a restricted console is wholly unusable.
Can Nintendo ban a Switch 2 for using a MIG cartridge?
Nintendo’s UK legal guidance identifies MIG Switch and MIG Flash as circumvention devices, describing them as products intended to bypass console security and enable unauthorized copies. Nintendo warns that using unauthorized devices may prevent online play. In June 2025, users also reported that their Switch 2 systems had been restricted from Nintendo online services after MIG cartridge use. Nintendo’s warning and the user reports are distinct kinds of evidence: one states the company’s position and potential risks; the other records individual claims, not a verified account of enforcement policy or scale.

What do the Switch 2 ban reports establish?
Nintendo Life and GamesRadar+ reported user claims of Switch 2 online restrictions following MIG cartridge use on June 17, 2025. GamesRadar+ quoted a user saying their test Switch 2 had been banned after using a MIG Switch with what they described as personal cartridge dumps. That is an individual, unverified report—not confirmation from Nintendo or an independent technical investigation.
#1 Best Overall
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
- The coverage supports saying that users reported online-service restrictions after MIG use.
- The sources do not establish how many systems were affected, what share of MIG users that represents, or a confirmed technical detection mechanism.
- The reports do not prove that every MIG user or console will face the same outcome.

Is a Switch 2 ban permanent?
The June 2025 coverage described an online restriction and quoted permanent-restriction language. That wording supports describing the reported cases as indefinite or reported as permanent, but it does not establish that every restriction is permanent, whether any can be reversed, or whether the entire console stops working. If your console is restricted, ask Nintendo Support about the status of your specific system; the available reports do not establish a general appeal or restoration outcome.

Does a MIG cartridge work on Switch 2?
The MIG Flash website listed firmware 1.2.0 on June 14, 2025, as adding Switch 1 game support on Switch 2. That is the vendor’s compatibility claim, not an independently verified finding or a guarantee that use is safe. The same site claimed it had not seen a ban with complete dumps; a vendor’s report does not establish that other uses or systems are protected from restrictions. Nintendo’s stated risks remain relevant regardless of the vendor’s claims.
Nintendo’s UK guidance also warns that an unauthorized device may cause a console to stop working following network updates. This is a separate risk from losing online access and is stated as a possibility, not a certainty.

Can you play offline if online services are restricted?
The cited coverage concerns online-service restrictions; it does not establish which offline functions remain available on affected consoles. It therefore cannot confirm that a restricted Switch 2 will still play every offline game, nor that the console is entirely unusable. Nintendo’s warning about possible malfunction after network updates adds a distinct risk, but does not specify what functions would fail on a particular system.

Nintendo’s North American Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ says the company has IP Enforcement programs in “more than 40 countries.” The page does not supply a publication year for that figure, so it should be read as Nintendo’s description of its program rather than a newly measured 2026 statistic. Nintendo’s legal position and enforcement statements do not, by themselves, verify the reported Switch 2 cases or explain their technical trigger.
