Nintendo raised the U.S. listed price of the standard Nintendo Switch from $299.99 to $339.99—a $40 increase—effective August 3, 2025. Asked why the price went up, Nintendo’s August 2025 announcement said the change was “based on market conditions,” without naming a more specific cause.

What changed, and when?

The price increase was announced in August 2025 and took effect on August 3, 2025. It was not a new 2026 price change. Nintendo’s U.S. product page currently lists the standard Nintendo Switch at $339.99; that listing is not a promise that every retailer charges the same amount or has the console in stock.

How did the announced prices compare by model?

Tom’s Hardware reported the following U.S. before-and-after prices on August 1, 2025. The changes applied to the original Switch family, not just the standard console.

Model Before After Increase Effective date
Nintendo Switch (standard) $299.99 $339.99 $40 August 3, 2025
Nintendo Switch OLED Model $349.99 $399.99 $50 August 3, 2025
Nintendo Switch Lite $199.99 $229.99 $30 August 3, 2025

These are announced U.S. prices, not a record of what every shop charged. Nintendo’s broader notice also covered Alarmo and selected accessories, but the model figures above are the specific changes itemized in the contemporaneous Tom’s Hardware report.

What reason did Nintendo give?

Nintendo’s August 2025 U.S. pricing update stated: “Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025.” The announcement did not identify a narrower reason, so claims that a specific factor—such as tariffs—caused the increase go beyond the explanation Nintendo provided.

The same announcement said: “However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.” That is a general caveat, not a forecast of a particular additional increase.

What should buyers check now?

Nintendo’s current U.S. listing gives the standard console’s listed price as $339.99. Retailer prices, stock, and promotions can differ, so check the seller’s live listing and checkout terms before buying. The announced 2025 prices do not establish current Switch 2 pricing or availability; compare those separately if you are deciding between generations.
