Nintendo reported sales of 4.82 million Nintendo Switch family hardware units in the three months ended December 31, 2024—its fiscal third quarter covering October through December. That was 30.1% fewer units than in the same quarter a year earlier. The figure is historical, not a current Switch or Switch 2 sales update.
What Nintendo’s 4.82 million figure counts
The number is Nintendo’s reported Switch hardware sales for the quarter. It counts hardware in the Nintendo Switch family, not game copies, revenue, or all Nintendo consoles including Switch 2. GamesBeat reported the 4.82 million figure and the 30.1% year-over-year decline in its February 4, 2025 coverage of Nintendo’s results: Nintendo Switch hardware sales fall 30.1% in holiday quarter.
How the holiday quarter fits into Nintendo’s nine-month results
For the nine months ended December 31, 2024, Nintendo reported 9.54 million Switch hardware units sold, down 30.6% year over year. Switch software sales over that same nine-month period were 123.98 million units, down 24.4%; those software units are separate from hardware sales.
Nintendo said the comparison period had been substantially driven by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Its nine-month report also listed 3.91 million units for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and 6.17 million for Super Mario Party Jamboree. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 5.38 million units during the nine months, bringing its cumulative sales to 67.35 million.

Why were Switch sales down 30.1%?
The year-over-year comparison was against a quarter Nintendo said had benefited substantially from major releases including Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The Switch was also in its eighth year on the market. These points provide context for a weaker comparison, but Nintendo’s reported figures do not establish that any single factor—including the announced successor—caused the decline.
Is 4.82 million a current sales figure?
No. It describes October–December 2024 only. Nintendo’s later FY2026 nine-month results reported 3.25 million Switch hardware units through December 2025, down 66.0% year over year; Nintendo’s investor-relations materials provide the later-period context. The two figures cover different periods and should not be read as competing estimates of the same quarter.
