Players have turned No Man’s Sky’s modular ship-building into an unlikely design challenge: making vessels that resemble a steam locomotive, Thomas the Tank Engine, and even a chunky Nokia phone. These are player-made builds, not official branded ships or announced collaborations. The newer Corvette builder is what makes such large, recognizable silhouettes possible.
Why No Man’s Sky ships can look like a train or a phone
The joke works because the game’s ship-building has expanded beyond choosing a conventional starship shape. In community posts and gaming coverage, players have shown off builds that evoke a steam engine, Thomas the Tank Engine, and a Nokia phone. The resemblance is the point: these are creative uses of in-game components, not Thomas or Nokia assets officially added to the game.
A Reddit post titled “Space Train Engine. (No mods. No glitches)” describes an attempt to make a steam-engine-style Corvette. Another community post, “This is a masterpiece,” is associated with a Thomas-like ship. GamesRadar’s 18 September 2025 coverage also named Thomas and a Nokia phone among examples of designs made possible by Corvette construction. These examples show what players have attempted; they do not establish an exact parts recipe or a guarantee that another player can reproduce a particular build.
Two different ship-building systems, years apart
No Man’s Sky added ship construction in stages. The earlier Orbital update introduced the Starship Fabricator for custom fighter, hauler, and explorer ships. The later Voyagers update added the much larger Corvette class, assembled from modules and designed to be habitable and multi-crew.

Hello Games describes the Orbital feature as allowing Travellers to “design and construct a completely custom ship from salvaged parts” on its Orbital Update page. For Voyagers, the studio describes “habitable, multi-crew starships assembled from hundreds of ship modules” in its Voyagers Update announcement. “Hundreds” is the page’s broad description, not a precise count of parts in any one ship or a promise that every component can be combined freely.
What the Corvette builder adds
Corvettes are not simply another small ship chassis. Hello Games presents them as large vessels players can build out of modules, with room for a crew and a habitable interior. The listed component types—hulls, wings, landing gear, cockpits, and engines—give players more ways to shape a vessel’s outline than the earlier fabricator’s fighter, hauler, and explorer categories suggest.

That wider design space helps explain why a Corvette can become a visual gag as well as a functional in-game ship. A train-like silhouette or phone-shaped body depends on how a player combines and presents parts; the official feature description establishes modular construction, not a Thomas-, locomotive-, or Nokia-specific preset. Voyagers also emphasized multiplayer and building ships with friends, so the feature is tied to shared play as well as individual customization.
What is known—and not known—about the named builds
The community posts and GamesRadar report support the existence of these player-made concepts, but the available descriptions do not provide verified module lists, coordinates, or reproducible construction steps for both designs. They also do not establish creator names for both examples. Treat screenshots or posts as inspiration rather than a complete build guide unless the creator supplies the parts and instructions directly.

Voyagers marks the arrival of Corvette construction, not necessarily the game’s latest update. Hello Games’ live Release Log and its later Cosmos Update page document changes beyond Voyagers. Update timing and availability can differ by platform, so check the release log and the game’s current platform listing for a specific console or version rather than assuming every platform received the same update at the same time.
