Several Palworld creatures bring Pokémon to mind through their silhouettes, colors, facial features, or shared animal and mythological archetypes. A 2025 Beebom article named the 20 pairings below; they are subjective visual comparisons, not official matches or evidence of copying. Three designs on the list—Verdash, Robinquill, and Fenglope—were later reported to have changed for Palworld 1.0, so those comparisons are especially dependent on which version you look at.
How to read these comparisons
The pairings are taken from Beebom’s published list, in its original order. A resemblance can come from a shared creature type, overall outline, proportions, color palette, markings, appendages, or expression. Not every pair shares all of those traits, and deciding whether two designs look alike is a matter of interpretation.
Beebom’s list is an editorial comparison, not a legal finding or a claim about what the designers intended. A 2024 Nintendo Life roundtable also recorded differing views on the similarities, including the possibility that some designs draw on common archetypes or sources of inspiration such as Anubis mythology.
20 Palworld and Pokémon visual pairings
| Palworld Pal | Pokémon comparison | Visual cue |
|---|---|---|
| Celaray | Mantine | Both are presented as manta-ray-like creatures, making their broad, gliding silhouettes the clearest point of comparison. |
| Lamball | Wooloo | The round, woolly sheep forms are the main resemblance. |
| Grizzbolt | Electabuzz | The comparison centers on their bulky, upright builds and electric-creature look. |
| Anubis | Lucario | Both have a humanoid stance and pointed head features; Beebom also notes a similar yellow, blue, and black palette. |
| Jetragon | Latios and Latias | The comparison is based on sleek, airborne dragon-like forms. |
| Verdash | Cinderace | The two are compared as upright, athletic, rabbit-like creatures. Verdash’s design was later reported to have changed for Palworld 1.0. |
| Cremis | Eevee | The resemblance is associated with their small, mammalian forms and soft, fluffy appearance. |
| Tanzee | Pansage | Both use a small, green monkey-like creature archetype. |
| Direhowl | Lycanroc | The comparison draws on their wolf-like forms and prominent canine features. |
| Fenglope | Cobalion | Both are compared as elegant, horned quadrupeds. Fenglope’s colors and details were reported to have changed for Palworld 1.0. |
| Robinquill | Decidueye | The comparison is based on bird-like features and an archer or ranger impression. Robinquill’s colors and details were reported to have changed for Palworld 1.0. |
| Boltmane | Luxray | The pairing draws on their feline shapes and electric-themed appearance. |
| Astegon | Mega Aggron | Both are compared as imposing, armored, dark-colored creatures. |
| Mau | Umbreon | The visual cue is a dark, sleek feline form. |
| Dinossom | Meganium | The comparison draws on their dinosaur-like bodies and plant-themed features. |
| Sparkit | Pikachu | Both are small, yellow electric creatures; the shared color and archetype make the comparison immediate. |
| Pengullet | Piplup | Both have penguin forms and similar coloring. |
| Kingpaca | Empoleon | The comparison focuses on a regal, upright presentation and a prominent chest or collar shape. |
| Azurobe | Serperior | Both are long-bodied, serpentine creatures with an elegant, flowing silhouette. |
| Univolt | Zebstrika | The pairing is based on horse-like forms and electric-themed markings or details. |
Why some comparisons are version-dependent
PC Gamer reported on July 10, 2026, that Verdash, Robinquill, and Fenglope received visual reworks for Palworld 1.0. Its account says Verdash became less humanoid, while Robinquill and Fenglope changed colors and details. That makes the older pairings useful as a record of Beebom’s comparison, but not a dependable description of every current in-game model. For those three, compare the version you are playing with current official imagery rather than relying on a 2025 screenshot or description.

What the comparisons do—and do not—say about the lawsuit
A resemblance list is not proof of infringement, copying, or creator intent. PC Gamer reported that Nintendo’s ongoing lawsuit against Pocketpair concerns patents involving creature-capture and riding mechanics, not a court determination about the Pal designs. The case posture can change, and the reporting cited here does not establish a ruling on whether any particular design was copied.
In a January 25, 2024 statement quoted by legal analysis from Axinn, The Pokémon Company said it “ha[s] not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game.” That statement addresses permission; it does not itself establish that a specific Pal infringes a right.
