For the four-game Sands of Time story, play Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, then Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Ubisoft identifies The Forgotten Sands as an interquel between the first and second games. Other Prince of Persia games belong to separate stories or continuities; there is no established, definitive chronological order for every game in the franchise.
The Sands of Time games in story order
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time — begin here. It starts the story cycle covered by this order.
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands — this interquel takes place in the years between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within. Ubisoft describes it that way in its October 17, 2024 retrospective.
- Prince of Persia: Warrior Within — follows the events of the interquel in this continuity.
- Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones — closes the trilogy. Creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot described the earlier trilogy as the story the team had envisioned and completed.
Which version of The Forgotten Sands?
Ubisoft notes that the Wii, DS, and PSP versions differ substantially from the main Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC version, including in story and gameplay. If you are following plot details closely, identify which version you mean; the interquel description does not make those editions identical.

Prince of Persia (2008)
The game titled Prince of Persia is an all-new story with a new Prince, not a continuation or a chapter in the Sands of Time order. Ubisoft describes it as the start of a new cycle. You can play it separately, without placing it before or after the four games above.
The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown follows Sargon on a 2.5D, Metroidvania-inspired adventure to rescue Prince Ghassan. The Rogue Prince of Persia is a separate roguelite concept. Ubisoft presents them as distinct modern entries, not as installments in the Sands of Time story; see its Prince of Persia game pages.
