Giratina is a post-game encounter. First complete Main Mission 26, “Seeking the Remaining Plates.” Afterward, return to Jubilife Village and speak with Professor Laventon to accept Request 91, “On the Trail of Giratina.” The Request 91 walkthrough and Serebii’s request reference both document the request and destination.

Find Giratina in Turnback Cave
- Travel to the Cobalt Coastlands.
- Head to Spring Path in the northwest and enter Turnback Cave.
- Approach Giratina inside the cave to start the encounter.
- Catch it, then report back to Laventon to complete the request.
Catch Giratina and claim the reward
The official gameplay guide explains the general capture mechanic: weakening a wild Pokémon in battle makes it easier to catch, and you catch it by throwing a Poké Ball. The sources documenting this request do not establish a Giratina-specific team, weakness, move set, or required capture tactic, so treat weakening as general guidance rather than a special requirement for this encounter.
After you catch Giratina, the request rewards you with the Griseous Core, which lets Giratina change form. Sources disagree about whether the Turnback Cave encounter is Origin Forme or Altered Forme, so this guide identifies it by its quest and location rather than assigning a form.
