What do reviews say about the game?
The appeal: an unusual mix of story, exploration, and management
The central attraction is the combination of free exploration and mascot-agency work. You play Michi, a disgraced yakuza lieutenant sent to the cursed town of Kaso-Machi to make a bankrupt mascot agency profitable while investigating why he was exiled. You explore in an upgradable small truck, find collectibles and businesses, recruit mascots, train them, and send them to jobs. Nintendo’s official description lays out the premise and core activities.
#1 Best Overall
- A new home to explore! What secrets will you discover in your adorable Kei Truck? Explore Michi’s new home of Kaso-Machi in his run-down (but upgradable!) truck. There’s plenty to discover in this forgotten Japanese town - new friends to make, collectibles to find (and destroy), other businesses to partner with and, most importantly, a variety of mascots to recruit.
- Mascots! Living, breathing creatures of untold flesh! Can you befriend them? As we all know, mascots are living creatures that have coexisted with mankind since the dawn of history. Mascots have their own hopes, dreams and desires and you’ll need to negotiate to recruit them. Some mascots want money, some want fame, some want a rice ball from the local convenience store, and some want to see the entire world burn to ashes in glorious hellfire. Who will be your favorite?
- Watch out, mascots! Will the job be completed successfully? Once they’re on the books, mascots can be trained and sent out on a variety of jobs to make money, gain experience and spread the name of the Promise Mascot Agency far and wide! Of course, jobs don’t always go to plan - whether it’s a narrow doorway, kitchens catching on fire or dreadful nightmare spirits, danger lurks around every corner.
- It’s up to you to assist your imperiled employee using Hero Cards, cards representing a variety of characters you’ll meet during your days in Kaso Machi. With tactical card usage, your mascot can overcome any challenge and win hearts, minds and a healthy paycheck. Go go, Michi and Pinky! Solve the mystery and create a home for mascots everywhere!
PC Gamer writer Jody Macgregor highlighted the appeal of exploring without combat and described the story as having a visual-novel-like scope. That is his assessment of the game’s approach, rather than a promise that every player will enjoy its pacing. PC Gamer’s review discusses the exploration and narrative.
The potential friction: job emergencies interrupt exploration
When mascot jobs go wrong, Hero Cards let you intervene in card-based sequences. Macgregor noted that these events can interrupt the flow of exploration. He also said players can postpone them; ignoring them costs some job rewards. That trade-off may matter if you prefer uninterrupted roaming over stopping to manage an unfolding job. PC Gamer’s review covers the interruptions and the option to delay them.
PC Gamer also displayed a 94/100 score from Maddi Chilton. In a later article, Chilton praised how the game balances contrasting tones and mechanics with an effective narrative. Her response is an individual critic’s judgment, not a universal account of the experience. The review and PC Gamer’s later report give that context.

Who is most likely to enjoy it?
The review signals and described gameplay point toward players interested in a story-led, unusual open-world adventure that also asks them to manage a small business. The loop is not purely exploratory: recruiting and training mascots, dispatching them to jobs, and responding to job problems are part of the premise. If frequent diversions from roaming would bother you, the card-event interruptions noted by PC Gamer are worth weighing before buying.
What is included in the digital listings?
Steam lists the game as well as separate digital soundtrack content and “The Art of Kaso-Machi.” The available listings establish those as digital products, not a physical soundtrack, printed artbook, or official merchandise. Steam’s downloadable content listing.
