The exact 10 km and 2 Candy threshold is reported by PoGoMate; Pokémon’s official guidance confirms the Buddy and time-of-day conditions but describes the distance only as “a certain distance.”
How to evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon
- Choose the Eevee you want to evolve. Set that specific Eevee as your Buddy before you start walking.
- Walk it 10 km and earn 2 Candy. PoGoMate’s guide gives these as the evolution requirements for the repeatable Buddy method. Pokémon’s official Buddy Adventure article does not specify the threshold; it says to walk “a certain distance.”
- Keep Eevee as your Buddy when you evolve it. PoGoMate specifies that the qualifying Eevee must still be your Buddy at the time of evolution.
- Check the time of day, then evolve. Evolve during the day for Espeon or at night for Umbreon.
Before confirming, check the evolution preview in-game to make sure it shows your intended Pokémon. If it does not, do not proceed; verify Eevee is still your Buddy and that the required walk and Candy have registered.

Pokémon’s official Buddy Adventure guidance describes both routes: make Eevee your Buddy, walk a certain distance, then evolve it during the day for Espeon or at night for Umbreon.
Do not confuse Eevee’s Candy distance with its evolution requirement
Pokémon lists Eevee in the 5 km category for earning Buddy Candy. That is the distance category for earning Candy, not the evolution threshold. The 10 km walk and 2 Candy evolution requirement comes from PoGoMate’s guide, not from the official Pokémon article.

What if the evolution option is missing?
Niantic’s Pokémon GO evolution help explains that some Pokémon need a specific evolution task and that task details appear on the Pokémon’s details page. Recheck the Buddy assignment and the progress displayed there. Since game instructions and interface details can change, follow the current in-game task if it differs from a guide.

The nickname method can force an Eevee evolution, but PoGoMate describes it as available once per evolution per account. After that, the Buddy walk is the alternative for obtaining Espeon or Umbreon. The one-time nickname limit is reported by that third-party guide; the official pages cited here do not confirm it.
