LG called it the world’s first 39-inch 5K2K curved OLED gaming monitor based on published OLED gaming-monitor specifications as of March 2026—not the first OLED monitor or the first display with a 5K-class resolution. LG announced a US launch price of $1,799.99 in April 2026; that is a dated launch figure, not a verified current quote.
What LG means by “world’s first”
LG’s claim is narrowly defined: its product page compares the GX9 with published OLED gaming-monitor specifications as of March 2026. The model is specifically a 39-inch curved OLED gaming monitor with a 5K2K resolution. The wording should not be read as a claim that LG made the first OLED monitor or the first display with a 5K-class resolution. LG’s product page provides the scope of the comparison.
What the 39GX950B-B offers
The GX9 combines a high-resolution ultrawide panel with a dual-mode refresh option. LG lists these specifications on its US product page and in its April 2026 launch announcement.
| Feature | LG-listed specification |
|---|---|
| Panel and size | 39-inch, 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem OLED |
| Resolution and format | 5120 × 2160 pixels; 21:9 ultrawide |
| Pixel density and curve | 143 pixels per inch; 1500R |
| Refresh modes | 165Hz at 5K2K or 330Hz at Wide Full HD (WFHD) |
| Response time | 0.03ms GtG |
| Typical brightness and HDR | 335 nits typical; VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 |
| Connections | DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with 90W power delivery |
The two refresh modes trade resolution for speed: 165Hz is the listed refresh rate at native 5K2K, while 330Hz is available at WFHD. LG’s footnotes say actual refresh performance depends on the computer’s graphics configuration and that the maximum rate requires compatible hardware. A PC should not be assumed to deliver 330Hz at the monitor’s full native resolution.

What 5K2K means for PC gaming
At 5120 × 2160, the GX9 has 33% more pixels than standard 4K, according to TechRadar’s September 28, 2026 review. That extra pixel load can make high frame rates harder to reach than at 4K; the reviewer suggests upscaling may be important for smooth gameplay. This is general context, not a performance guarantee for any particular graphics card. Your results depend on the game, settings, GPU and chosen resolution.
LG lists a 335-nit typical brightness and DisplayHDR True Black 500. These are different measures: do not treat the typical-brightness figure as a small-highlight peak-brightness measurement. LG also lists AI Sound and AI Scene Optimization among the product features.

Launch pricing and availability
The preorder wording in the original announcement is no longer current. LG’s April 7, 2026 US release opened preorders at LG.com for $1,799.99. The release also described a promotion running April 6 through May 3, 2026, under which preorder customers could add a two-year LG Premium Care warranty extension for $1; that promotion has expired. Those are historical terms, not an offer to rely on now.
LG Electronics Canada announced a C$2,199.99 starting MSRP on May 1, 2026, with select-retailer availability expected in early May. TechRadar reported the monitor available in the US, UK and Australia in its September 28, 2026 review, listing the US starting price as $1,799.99. Neither launch-era nor review-era figures establish today’s local price or stock; check LG or regional retailers for current listings. LG Canada’s announcement documents its regional launch details.

How it compares with the Alienware AW3926QW
TechRadar discusses the Alienware AW3926QW as a competing model. Its review describes the LG’s screen finish as matte/anti-glare and the Alienware’s as glossy, and notes differences in HDR support and connections. These distinctions may matter more than headline resolution if you are choosing between the two: a matte surface can suit brighter rooms, while coating preference is personal. Compare the complete port and HDR specifications, as well as current local pricing, before buying; TechRadar’s prices are from September 28, 2026, not live quotes.
