Reports of a possible 2028–2029 launch are analyst speculation, while talk of a $1,000 next-generation console is commentary—not a Sony price announcement.
What is officially confirmed about the PS6?
No official PS6 price, release date or specification sheet appears in the Sony sources reviewed here. There are therefore no confirmed PS6 models to compare by performance, storage or features. Treat specific claims about its processor, graphics, memory, resolution, performance or compatibility as unconfirmed unless Sony publishes them.
Sony’s recent announcements concern existing PlayStation hardware. Its March 27, 2026 PlayStation Blog post announced new recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal, effective April 2, 2026—not a PS6 announcement. Sony’s March 2026 price announcement
PS6 rumors versus confirmed information
| Claim | Status | What the evidence says |
|---|---|---|
| PS6 price | Not confirmed | Sony has not announced a PS6 price in the official material reviewed. The $1,000 discussion is an executive’s opinion, not a price leak. |
| PS6 release date | Not confirmed | A GamesRadar report published in July 2026 describes 2028 or 2029 as a window some analysts believe possible; it is not a Sony-confirmed date. GamesRadar’s report on the timing speculation |
| PS6 specifications | No official spec sheet found | The reviewed evidence does not establish confirmed technical specifications or compatibility claims. |
| PS5 and PS5 Pro prices | Confirmed for those products only | Sony’s published PS5-family pricing and historical launch prices concern current-generation hardware, not the PS6. |
When is the PS6 coming out?
There is no confirmed PS6 release date. A July 2026 GamesRadar report says some analysts believe the console could arrive in 2028 or 2029, citing reporting associated with Embracer Group’s annual financial report. That is a reported estimate, not a Sony announcement or guarantee; the report does not establish that Sony has committed to either year.

How much will the PS6 cost?
No PS6 price has been announced. GamesRadar reported on October 4, 2026, that former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden expressed skepticism about consumers paying around $1,000 for next-generation consoles if the improvements were marginal. That is a view about affordability, not a leaked PS6 price or Sony forecast. GamesRadar’s report on Layden’s comments
PS5 prices can provide historical context, but they do not predict the PS6’s price. Sony announced PS5 Pro’s November 7, 2024 launch at recommended retail prices of $699.99 in the US, £699.99 in the UK, €799.99 in the euro area and ¥119,980 in Japan, including tax. For comparison, Sony announced the original PS5’s US launch prices in 2020 as $399 for the Digital Edition and $499 for the Ultra HD Blu-ray model. Those are historical launch prices, not PS6 estimates. Sony’s original PS5 launch announcement
What do Sony’s spending figures say—and not say—about price?
Sony Group Corporation’s 2025 Corporate Report gives first-five-year life-to-date spend per active device of $846 for PS5 through FY2024 and $669 for PS4 through FY2017. These figures attribute spending across content, services and peripherals; they are not the purchase price of either console, and they do not establish a PS6 price. What PS6 specs are known?
No official PS6 specification sheet was found in the sources reviewed. There is no confirmed basis here for claims about its CPU, GPU, memory, resolution, performance uplift or backward compatibility. Rumored numbers should not be treated as settled specifications until Sony identifies the hardware and publishes details.

A reliable confirmation would come from Sony identifying the PS6 in an official announcement and stating the relevant details: launch timing, regional pricing and hardware specifications. Until then, separate Sony announcements about PS5-family products from third-party reporting and opinion about the next generation.
