Then restart Windows if it was recently updated, reset the Store cache, and try an official alternate installation route. You can install the Launcher through Microsoft Store, the Xbox app for Windows, or Minecraft.net—but the Minecraft.net installer still requires a Microsoft Store sign-in.
Check the Microsoft account linked to Minecraft
Open Microsoft Store and make sure it is signed in to the Microsoft account you intend to use with Minecraft Launcher. Minecraft’s troubleshooting guidance says the Launcher, Microsoft Store, and Xbox app should all use the same Microsoft account that has the Minecraft license. The Minecraft.net installer also requires a Microsoft Store login, so downloading it from the website does not bypass Store sign-in.

Restart Windows and reset Microsoft Store
Restart after a recent update
If Windows was recently updated, restart the PC before trying the installation again. Microsoft notes that a restart may be needed before Store apps can install.

Reset the Store cache with wsreset.exe
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand press Enter. - Wait for the blank command window to close and Microsoft Store to open automatically.
- Try installing Minecraft Launcher again.
Microsoft documents this as a Store troubleshooting step in its guide to finding or installing apps from Microsoft Store.
Try another official way to install the Launcher
Minecraft lists three Windows installation routes. Switching routes can help distinguish a Store-specific issue from a Launcher or account issue, but no route is established as universally more reliable.

Repair or reset the app in Windows
If Microsoft Store or the Xbox app is the part failing, Windows may offer a repair option. Microsoft cautions that not all desktop apps support Repair or Reset.

- Restart Windows first.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected app, select its menu, then choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair. If that does not resolve the problem and the option is available, try Reset.
Use this for the app that is malfunctioning—for example, Microsoft Store if its downloads are failing—not as a substitute for checking which account owns the Minecraft license. Microsoft’s instructions are in Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.
Reinstall Minecraft Launcher if it is already present
If an earlier installation left the Launcher installed but unusable, uninstall it and install it again through one of the official routes. Minecraft recommends reinstalling to refresh the files needed by the Launcher. Follow its Launcher troubleshooting steps.

Check why Minecraft Launcher may be unavailable in Store
If you cannot find the app or the Store will not let you install it, the cause may be an availability or account restriction rather than a damaged Launcher. Microsoft identifies several possible blockers:
- The app is not available in your region.
- Family settings restrict access.
- Your device is not compatible.
- The PC needs a restart after a recent update.
- The Microsoft account is not authorized for the purchase or download.
- You are using a local Windows account, or an administrator has disabled Store on a managed work device.

When to contact support
If the official installation routes and the applicable Windows repair steps do not work, note the exact error message and contact the support team that matches the problem: Minecraft Support for Launcher-specific issues, or Microsoft Support for a Store problem. Avoid unofficial registry edits or PowerShell fixes unless support gives you a specific reason to use them; the documented steps above do not establish that such changes are needed for a typical install failure.
