NVIDIA ended Game Ready Driver support for GeForce GPUs based on Maxwell, Pascal and Volta in October 2025—but it did not end every driver update. NVIDIA says these cards will receive updates for critical security items through October 2028. That includes the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, along with the other desktop and notebook GPUs listed below.
What changed—and what did not
NVIDIA’s support plan, updated July 31, 2025, moved Maxwell-, Pascal- and Volta-based GeForce GPUs to security-only driver updates beginning in October 2025 and continuing through October 2028. The change ends Game Ready Driver updates for these architectures. Those updates include performance enhancements, new features and bug fixes.
NVIDIA says Game Ready updates are available for GPUs based on Turing, Ampere, Ada and Blackwell. Its policy does not say that affected cards are unusable, nor does it require owners to replace them.
Which GPUs are affected?
NVIDIA’s list distinguishes desktop and notebook products. The GTX 1080 Ti is a Pascal desktop GPU; the full affected list also includes Maxwell and Volta models.

Will the GTX 1080 Ti still get updates?
Yes. NVIDIA’s Windows listing reviewed for this article identifies GeForce Security Update Driver 582.66 (WHQL), released June 16, 2026, as a security update for Maxwell, Volta and Pascal GeForce GPUs that no longer receive Game Ready Drivers. The supported-product list includes the GTX 1080 Ti.

If your card is on NVIDIA’s affected list, expect security-focused driver updates rather than the usual Game Ready updates with game-related enhancements, features and bug fixes. The policy does not establish whether a particular future game or application will run correctly on your card.

To check whether you are affected, identify the exact GPU model and whether it is a desktop or notebook product, then compare it with NVIDIA’s list. When looking for a driver, check the release type and operating-system requirements rather than assuming that the absence of a Game Ready release means no update exists.
Whether to upgrade depends on your own needs: for example, whether you require future Game Ready updates, features or fixes. NVIDIA’s announcement does not say that owners must replace their cards.
