A March 2026 report pointed to a possible Bob-omb Blast return in Mario Kart World—and Nintendo’s update history later listed the mode in Ver. 1.6.0. That does not amount to confirmation of a wider 2026 roadmap. Nintendo’s latest update documented as of October 8, 2026 is Ver. 1.8.0, which added classic courses, two Knockout Tour routes and Spectator Mode.
What did the reported leak show?
GamesRadar reported on March 6, 2026, that an apparently deleted Nintendo website post included a Battle Mode icon showing a Bob-omb. The report interpreted the icon as a possible hint that Bob-omb Blast could return. It was a reading of an icon, not an official announcement of a slate of future content.

Nintendo’s official update history later recorded Bob-omb Blast in Ver. 1.6.0. That confirms the mode appeared in the game; it does not turn the earlier report into evidence of a larger roadmap. GamesRadar’s March 6 report is useful for what was seen and inferred at the time, while Nintendo’s update history documents what shipped.
Did Nintendo confirm more Mario Kart World updates for 2026?
The official sources available as of October 8, 2026 document updates through Ver. 1.8.0, but do not confirm further 2026 content plans. Claims about a paid expansion, a DK-themed expansion, additional characters or future release dates should be treated as speculation unless Nintendo announces them.

What’s in Mario Kart World Ver. 1.8.0?
Nintendo Support lists Ver. 1.8.0 as released September 9, 2026. Nintendo’s separate announcement, published September 15, described the update as free. Those are different dates: the first is the software release date; the second is the announcement date.
Ten classic courses
The update makes these Super Nintendo-era courses playable as standalone races in VS Race, Time Trials, Online Play and Wireless Play:

Nintendo says item panels appear on these courses instead of item boxes. The announcement describes how they fit into the game: “Classic courses from Super Mario Kart have been hiding in plain sight across the world of Mario Kart World, and now 10 of them can be played as standalone races in VS Race.”
Two Knockout Tour routes
Ver. 1.8.0 adds Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally to Knockout Tour. To select either route, Nintendo says you must first have played that rally in Knockout Tour.

Spectator Mode and other changes

An Online Play or LAN Play room can hold up to 26 people, with up to 24 participating in the game and the rest spectating, according to Nintendo’s Ver. 1.8.0 notes.
