Its main bonus was 2× XP for catching Pokémon; it also introduced visor-wearing Slakoth, Vigoroth, and Slaking and marked shiny Komala’s Pokémon GO debut. The event’s optional GO Plus +-linked and paid Timed Research tracks have expired, too.
When was Slumbering Sands, and what was the bonus?
Niantic scheduled the event from Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. through Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The announced event bonus was 2× XP for catching Pokémon. Event-themed Pokémon could also appear as surprise encounters when players took snapshots. These details come from Niantic’s official Slumbering Sands announcement, published May 28, 2024.

Which Pokémon appeared, and what was new?
The event introduced visor-wearing versions of Slakoth, Vigoroth, and Slaking; Niantic marked all three as potentially shiny. Shiny Komala also made its Pokémon GO debut during the event. In Niantic’s words, “For the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter Shiny Komala—if you’re lucky!”
Wild encounters
Niantic said these Pokémon would appear more frequently in the wild: Psyduck, Slowpoke, Drowzee, Mareep, visor-wearing Slakoth, Oranguru, and Sandygast. Munna and Komala were also listed as possible wild encounters.

What were the Timed Research and ticket details?
GO Plus +-linked research
The device-linked research was optional and separate from ordinary event participation. Its reward track required pairing Pokémon GO Plus + with Pokémon GO, and players had until June 14, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time to finish and claim rewards. That deadline has passed; buying the accessory now cannot restore this event’s expired research.
Niantic described Pokémon GO Plus + as a device that can auto-throw Poké Balls at wild Pokémon, auto-spin PokéStops, and use settings for Great Balls or Ultra Balls. It can also track sleep with Pokémon Sleep. Those general device functions do not make it a requirement for ordinary event content.
