To reach G Rank in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (MHGU), progress through the Hunters Hub: clear the marked Key Quests for each rank, then complete the urgent quest that appears to advance. Continue through Hub Low Rank and High Rank; after the required High Rank progression, the Hub route opens G1. Village quests are a separate track and do not unlock Hub G Rank.
Which quest track unlocks G Rank?
MHGU has separate Village and Hunters Hub progression. Village quests are solo-oriented, while the Hub supports multiplayer and can also be played solo. Completing Village quests does not automatically advance the Hub or unlock G Rank; follow the Hunters Hub route for that.
At each Hub tier, the counter identifies the Key Quests required for progression. Optional quests can offer materials, services, requests, or Hunter Arts, but they generally are not needed to reach the next tier. Focus on the marked quests unless an optional reward helps with your immediate goal.
How to get from Hub High Rank to G1
Work through Hub Low Rank and High Rank by completing the marked Key Quests and taking the urgent quest when it becomes available. Capcom’s Hunters Hub manual explains the general mechanic: “You can increase your Hunter Rank by completing Urgent Quests at the Hunters Hub.” The manual is for Monster Hunter Generations, so it supports the general Hub progression rule rather than serving as an MHGU-specific quest list.
#1 Best Overall
- Colossal roster - Take on the series' largest roster of monsters to date including all-new monsters, Deviant variants, and the mysterious new Elder Dragon Valstrax.
- Co-op multiplayer - join up and hunt online with up to three other hunters, or meet-up and play together via local play.
- Play anywhere! - with Nintendo Switch, for the first time gamers have the flexibility to either play online with friends on a TV in tabletop mode or play on-the-go in handheld mode.
- New level of challenge - “g” rank is introduced to test experienced hunters' battle tactics. Formidable versions of familiar foes enter the fields with different moves and abilities never before.
- Highly customizable gameplay - Expanding on the four Styles and supermoves called Hunter Arts introduced in Generations, two Styles are introduced for even further refined personalization options
An MHGU progression guide places G Rank access after Hub High Rank tiers 6 and 7 and the required urgent transition. When you have cleared the necessary High Rank Key Quests, return to the Hub counter and check for the urgent quest that advances you into G Rank. The counter’s displayed requirements in your game should take precedence over any online list.
How G1, G2, G3, and G4 progression works
G Rank has four main tiers. The basic pattern repeats: finish the current tier’s marked Key Quests, return to the counter, and complete the promotion urgent to open the next tier.
Rank #2
- Take on the series' largest roster of monsters to date including all-new monsters
- Join up and hunt online with up to three other hunters, or meet-up and play together via local play
- Flexibility to either play online with friends on a TV in tabletop mode or play on-the-go in handheld mode
- Alongside the previously featured low rank and high rank level quests from Generations, a challenging quest level called "G" rank is introduced to test experienced hunters' battle tactics
- Expanding on the four Styles and super moves called Hunter Arts introduced in Generations, new indispensable Hunter Arts as well as two Styles are introduced for even further refined personalization options
- G1: Clear the G1 Key Quests and take the urgent quest to advance to G2.
- G2: Complete the G2 Key Quests, then clear the urgent quest to reach G3.
- G3: Finish the marked G3 quests and complete the urgent quest to unlock G4.
- G4: Work through the G4 progression and its additional unlocked quests, then take the urgent quest that concludes this sequence.
NintendoSoup’s 2018 guide lists the promotion urgents as G1 “Legendary Skills?” (Diablos), G2 “Dirty Deals” (Barroth), G3 “Giant Dragon Invasion” (Lao-Shan Lung), and G4 “Sales of Justice” (Valstrax). It lists “Castle on the Run” (Ahtal-Ka) after G4 as the Hunter Rank limit break. These names are a useful cross-check, not an official or guaranteed-current quest database. Follow the urgent quest and Key Quest markers shown at your own counter.
Key Quest lists are checks, not substitutes for the counter
NintendoSoup’s list names five G1 Key Quests: “Pecking Order,” “Lost, But Not for Long,” “Surprise!,” “Water fight,” and “Survival of the Biggest.” It also lists five quests each for G2 and G3. Its G4 section includes several initial quests and two additional quests unlocked by “Emergency of the Arctic Ridge,” before the sequence culminates in the Ahtal-Ka urgent. Because the list was published in 2018, use it to recognize possible quest names rather than to override your in-game markers.

What to do if G Rank has not appeared
- You have completed Village quests: Village progress is separate. Check the Hunters Hub and continue its Low Rank and High Rank route.
- You cleared some Hub quests but no urgent appeared: Look for any remaining marked Key Quests at the current tier, then return to the counter and check again.
- You completed an urgent but are still at the same stage: Check the Hub counter for the next tier’s Key Quests or urgent; promotion is driven by Hub progression.
- An online quest list does not match your game: Trust the markers and quest availability displayed in your own game over an older published list.
Prepare for your first G Rank urgent
Preparation can make the transition more manageable, but it is not an unlock condition. Before taking the first G Rank urgent, check whether your main weapon branch can be upgraded, consider replacing High Rank armor that has become outdated, and bring healing items and supplies suited to the objective. No particular weapon or armor set is required by the progression route.
The progression route described by the Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Wiki Team guide and the detailed quest names listed in NintendoSoup’s G Rank guide are useful references, but the counter in your game is the reliable final check for what you must clear next.
