Yes—EVE Online can be played on Steam Deck using SteamOS compatibility features such as Proton. That is not the same as a native SteamOS release or a guarantee that every part of the game works seamlessly: EVE’s current requirements list Microsoft PC and Apple Mac, and its Steam Deck rating was not confirmed in the sources available for this article.
How EVE Online runs on Steam Deck
Steam Deck can run non-Steam games through Proton, and Valve supports adding games to Steam. EVE Online is also available on Steam, giving Deck owners a plausible route to play. Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ says, “Yes, you can run non-Steam games through Proton.” Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ describes that compatibility option.
However, EVE Online’s published system requirements, updated June 23, 2026, list Microsoft PC and Apple Mac—not SteamOS. Playing on Deck therefore relies on compatibility features rather than a separately listed native Deck client.
Is EVE Online Steam Deck Verified?
The game-specific Steam Deck rating was not confirmed in the sources available for this article, so it should not be described as Verified. Valve’s ratings are a separate assessment from whether a game can launch: Verified titles work well out of the box; Playable games may need manual adjustments; Unsupported titles are currently nonfunctional; and Unknown means Valve has not checked the game. Ratings can change as games and Deck features are updated. Valve’s Verified program page explains the assessment, which considers controls, input icons, on-screen keyboard behavior, text legibility, launcher navigation, and Proton compatibility.

What playing it may feel like
EVE’s pointer- and menu-heavy interface is the practical challenge. Community reports describe playing with the Deck’s trackpads and touchscreen, and one report mentions a Bluetooth mouse. Other players mention friction with launcher interaction, text entry, or finding a convenient control layout. These are individual experiences, not controlled tests, and they may vary with SteamOS, Proton, the launcher, account setup, and game updates. A Bluetooth mouse for Steam Deck is an optional convenience if you prefer pointer control; it is not a requirement.
Ways to install and sign in
EVE’s official guide, updated October 16, 2025, describes two relevant account routes. Choose based on how you access EVE and whether you need the launcher to manage accounts.

See EVE Online’s Steam and launcher guide for the documented account options. Valve confirms the general ability to add games to Steam, but these sources do not provide a current EVE-specific Steam Deck installation walkthrough; check current EVE and Valve instructions for setup details.

EVE Support advises lowering graphics settings during large-scale fleet fights. The available sources do not provide verified Steam Deck frame rates, battery life, heat measurements, or fleet-battle results. Treat performance in those demanding scenes as uncertain rather than relying on a specific frame-rate or battery expectation.
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
What to check before you start
- Confirm the current Steam Deck rating on Steam; the game-specific rating was not established here.
- Pick the Steam sign-in route or launcher route that matches your account setup.
- Expect to adapt to a pointer-heavy interface; try the trackpads and touchscreen before deciding whether you want to carry a mouse.
- If you enter a large fleet fight, use EVE Support’s general advice to lower graphics settings if needed.
EVE’s official download page offers Windows and Mac clients and links to free play and Omega. Those offerings do not establish Steam Deck support or compatibility.
