They do not change Red Dead Redemption 2’s official story or add a Rockstar-authored alternate ending. The available saves can place Arthur in or beyond the epilogue, but they come with compatibility risks and noticeable glitches.
What “saving Arthur” means
In this context, “save” means loading a modified save file or using a modded story state to continue playing as Arthur around or after the Chapter 6 ending. It is a workaround for free-roam play, not a way to change the game’s canonical outcome. The May 15, 2026 overview from Position is Everything also distinguishes these approaches from an official alternate ending.
Rockstar’s Honor in Red Dead Redemption 2 page describes actions that affect Arthur’s honor; it does not say that high honor prevents his story ending. Treat claims about altered story states as community-mod descriptions, not official Rockstar guidance.

These are community uploads, not verified current-build instructions. Their pages and creator notes are the authority for file-specific requirements and known issues; the examples should not be taken as a guarantee that a save will work with every game version or profile.

What to check before installing a save
- Confirm you are using the PC version. The described methods are PC-focused, and the creator of the Fisher of Fish II playable save explicitly says it only works on PC. Console players should not expect these save-file workflows to apply.
- Read the specific mod page’s installation instructions. Save files and runtime or story-state mods are different approaches. Do not assume a generic folder path, mod loader, or script hook applies to every download.
- Back up your existing profile before changing files. The Arthur in Epilogue page recommends making a backup. Keep your original saves separate so you can restore them if the imported file crashes or disrupts progression.
- Check version and profile compatibility. A save built for a different game build or profile structure can fail to load, crash, or break progression. Game updates may also break mod hooks.
- Decide whether the listed bugs are acceptable. Read the uploader’s limitations before replacing your active save; altered story progression can leave quests, dialogue, cutscenes, or character behavior inconsistent.
This is not an official Rockstar procedure, and compatibility is not established across current game builds. In particular, the uploader of the 2020 “90.1 Percent Healthy Arthur Morgan Save Game” says the tutorial may no longer work and that the file is unsupported.

These saves preserve enough of a modified state to let players control Arthur in locations or portions of the game where the original story does not ordinarily offer that play. They do not necessarily make the rest of the world behave as though the story never changed. The reported snipers, broken cutscene, unfinished quests, John-related dialogue or identity, and Arthur’s coughing are examples of the seams that can show.
