Red Dead Redemption 2’s seventh anniversary was October 26, 2025. No anniversary announcement for the game surfaced in the Rockstar Newswire index reviewed, and a report the next day described fan disappointment over the absence of an announcement for a current-generation version. That does not establish that Rockstar made no comment through any other channel, or reveal what the company plans to do.
What happened on Red Dead Redemption 2’s seventh anniversary?
Rockstar and PlayStation list October 26, 2018, as the game’s release date. That made October 26, 2025, its seventh anniversary; the eighth anniversary is October 26, 2026, and is still ahead as of October 8, 2026. Rockstar’s product page and PlayStation’s product page provide the release-date and product details.

The Rockstar Newswire index reviewed for this story showed Red Dead Online announcements but did not surface an RDR2 anniversary post. That is a limited finding about the index, not proof that Rockstar said nothing on every channel. Rockstar Newswire
Was a current-generation upgrade announced?
The sources reviewed do not confirm an announcement of a current-generation upgrade for the seventh anniversary. On October 27, 2025, iXBT Games reported that fans were disappointed the anniversary passed without an announcement of a next-generation version. That is secondary reporting about reaction; it is not an official statement, proof that an upgrade was promised, or confirmation of Rockstar’s plans.

Accordingly, expectations for an upgrade should be treated as fan hopes or rumors unless Rockstar confirms one. The seventh-anniversary coverage does not establish whether a future version will be released.
Why the anniversary mattered to players
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in 1899 and follows Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang after a robbery goes wrong in Blackwater, according to the official product descriptions. Rockstar announced the game in 2016, describing it as a project intended to push the studio’s vision for an interactive world; that historical statement was not a response to the anniversary or upgrade expectations. One community post marked the date with “Happy 7th birthday, rdr2” and “it’s been an amazing 7 years.” It illustrates how a player celebrated the milestone, but one post cannot stand in for a poll or measure broad fan sentiment. The dated community post
