Wild Zone 1 is just south of Hotel Z near Vert Sector 8, and it is the first wild zone you encounter in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Its seven listed species are Fletchling, Bunnelby, Weedle, Scatterbug, Mareep, Pidgey, and Pichu. You can explore the ground-level areas early; reach the rooftops with Rock Smash, and return later for the level 26 Alpha Pidgey after meeting Emma and completing three of her Side Missions.
Where is Wild Zone 1?
Look just south of Hotel Z on South Boulevard, near Vert Sector 8. The zone is west of Station Front, Café Introversion, and the Vert Pokémon Center. Another approach is to travel east from the Pokémon Research Lab, south of Vernal Avenue. Nintendo Life’s Wild Zone 1 guide describes the location and landmarks.

Wild Zone 1 is available early in the story. Serebii marks access as beginning with Main Mission 3 in its Wild Zone listing. The area guide recommends level 5, but that is a recommendation, not a stated entry requirement.
What Pokémon are in Wild Zone 1?
The area guide lists seven species, also reflected in Serebii’s zone roster. Their locations within the zone differ, so check the rooftops and courtyard as well as the open ground.

| Pokémon | Where to look | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Fletchling | Flying around the grass at ground level | Normal/Flying |
| Bunnelby | Ground level | Normal |
| Weedle | Near the grass | Bug/Poison |
| Scatterbug | Near the grass | Bug |
| Mareep | Grass patch by the western exit | Electric |
| Pidgey | Rooftops; requires the Rock Smash route | Normal/Flying |
| Pichu | Small courtyard on the opposite side of the area | Not stated in the cited area guide |
How to reach the rooftops
Get Rock Smash from Mable, then use the ladder to climb onto the buildings. The rooftops are where you find Pidgey, and the ability is the key traversal requirement for reaching them. Bunnelby is also noted by the area guide in connection with Rock Smash.
Where to find Pichu
Look for the small courtyard on the opposite side of the area from the main route. The guide reports only one Pichu spawn there, making this an easy encounter to overlook; check the courtyard rather than searching only around the grass.

- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
How to find the Alpha Pidgey
The guaranteed Alpha Pidgey appears on the right rooftop at level 26, but only after you have met Emma and completed three of her Side Missions. This is a later return encounter, not part of the initial zone visit.
Alpha Pokémon are generally larger than their regular counterparts and have glowing red eyes. The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A adventure page says they are particularly powerful and difficult to catch, and that they may chase and attack after noticing you.

How to catch Wild Zone 1 Pokémon
Some Pokémon flee as soon as they spot you. Pokémon’s official gameplay guidance recommends hiding out of sight or approaching from behind to avoid being noticed. If you are willing to battle, lowering a wild Pokémon’s HP can make it easier to catch. A capture succeeds when the Pokémon does not pop back out of the Poké Ball.
Which Pokémon should you catch first?
The area guide recommends collecting five different Pokémon for story progress. It singles out Mareep as a useful way to add type variety early; its final evolution, Ampharos, can Mega Evolve. This is a strategic suggestion, not a requirement to clear Wild Zone 1.
What Wild Zones are for
Wild Zones are constructed habitats within Lumiose City’s redevelopment plan, and they can be explored by day or night. The official gameplay overview describes daytime catching and training ahead of the Z-A Royale battles in battle zones after night falls.
