What was reported to have leaked?
A report published by Nintendo Life on December 11, 2025, said that cover art and low-resolution screenshots for a Tomb Raider game had circulated online before that evening’s Game Awards. The report was updated after the official reveal.
At the time, some fans interpreted the images as evidence of a remake of the first game. That was speculation, not an official description. The available reporting does not establish who supplied the material or independently verify the origin and authenticity of every image.
Was it really a remake?
The title in the leak was Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Crystal Dynamics later confirmed it. The studio calls the game “a true reimagining” of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut. That is the publisher’s confirmed framing; “remake” was a fan interpretation of the leak, not the official label.

Crystal Dynamics says the project uses Unreal Engine 5 and modern game design, with “new surprises.” Those broad statements do not confirm specific mechanics, story changes, or details inferred from the circulated screenshots. The official announcement and its trailer are the better references for what the studio has actually presented.
How Legacy of Atlantis differs from Tomb Raider: Catalyst
The Game Awards announcement introduced two distinct projects. Legacy of Atlantis revisits the original game; Catalyst is described as a new chapter in Lara’s story, set across Northern India.
