In Monster Hunter: World, Palico Gadgets are companion tools that help with healing, monster control, defense, gathering, buffs, or damage. The game has six: Vigorwasp Spray, Flashfly Cage, Shieldspire, Plunderblade, Coral Orchestra, and Meowlotov Cocktail. Iceborne adds higher-proficiency abilities and Tailraider Signal; Monster Hunter Wilds uses a separate system called Palico Support Moves, not this gadget roster.
Which Palico Gadget should you use in Monster Hunter: World?
There is no universal best choice: pick the gadget for the problem you want your Palico to help solve. The six World gadgets and their main roles are:
| Gadget | Best suited to | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Vigorwasp Spray | Healing | Deploys healing Vigorwasps; its healing and deployment options improve with proficiency. |
| Flashfly Cage | Interrupting monsters | Uses flash effects to disrupt monsters and can involve shock traps at higher proficiency. |
| Shieldspire | Defense and attention management | Gives the Palico defensive behavior and ways to draw a monster’s attention. |
| Plunderblade | Getting extra materials | Attacks monsters to obtain additional items. |
| Coral Orchestra | Team buffs | Plays melodies that can improve attack, defense, or resistance to status effects. |
| Meowlotov Cocktail | Explosive damage | Deals explosive damage, with blast strength that scales with proficiency. |
These are in-game abilities, not separate purchasable accessories. The World roster and effects are documented by the Monster Hunter: World Wiki; GameSpot also describes the gadget effects and unlocks in its Palico Gadgets guide.
How to choose by the kind of help you need
- Need healing during a hunt? Start with Vigorwasp Spray. Its later proficiency options let the Palico deploy healing in more ways.
- Want openings against a monster? Flashfly Cage is the control choice, with flash effects and higher-proficiency trap behavior.
- Want breathing room? Shieldspire supports defense and attention-drawing behavior, helping shift some pressure away from you.
- Hunting for materials? Plunderblade is the option built around getting extra items from monsters.
- Prefer group support? Coral Orchestra provides beneficial melodies, including attack, defense, and status-resistance effects.
- Want more damage? Meowlotov Cocktail focuses on explosive attacks.
Your practical choice depends on the hunt, the help you value, and which gadgets and proficiency abilities you have unlocked. The available sources do not establish a single strongest gadget across all situations.
#1 Best Overall
- Contains both Monster Hunter: World and the Iceborne expansion
- Explore sprawling locales teeming with undiscovered creatures and thriving ecosystems
- Battle fearsome monsters not only to craft new weapons & armor, but also to drive the story forward and uncover the mysteries of the New World and Hoarfrost Reach
- Extensive single-player campaign that also allows drop-in multiplayer; use the SOS Flare to summon other hunters for an assist!
- Use monster materials, as well as items found growing in the wild, to craft new items and gear
What Vigorwasp proficiency changes
Vigorwasp Spray is the starter gadget in Monster Hunter: World. Its healing and deployment improve as proficiency rises. GameSpot specifies two milestones: manual healing becomes available at proficiency 5, and a healing station at level 10. Those milestones describe the World gadget; do not confuse them with Iceborne‘s additional proficiency-tier abilities.
What Iceborne adds to Palico Gadgets
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expands the gadget system with higher-proficiency abilities. These are expansion features, not part of the base game’s original six-gadget description. The exact ability available depends on the gadget and its proficiency tier.

| Gadget or feature | Iceborne addition | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Vigorwasp Spray | Vigorwasp Revive can revive the hunter. | It can revive the hunter once per quest or expedition. |
| Flashfly Cage | Thunderbug Cage functions like a shock trap. | It is ineffective against elder dragons. |
| Shieldspire | Shieldspire Stooge acts as a decoy. | Its role is to draw monster attention. |
| Plunderblade | Palarang can cause a monster to drop a pickup; Mount & Plunder can produce trade-in items. | These are different higher-proficiency behaviors. |
| Meowlotov Cocktail | Meowcano creates an area attack. | It is an added ability, not a separate gadget in the base roster. |
| Tailraider Signal | Calls nearby Lynians or Tailraiders to assist. | Available in single-player only. |
The Iceborne ability descriptions are summarized in the Monster Hunter: World Wiki’s Palico Gadgets reference. Availability may depend on expansion ownership, progression, and gadget proficiency.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are Palico Gadgets the same as Wilds Support Moves?
No. Monster Hunter Wilds calls its companion abilities Palico Support Moves. It has a different roster and unlock path, so World and Iceborne gadget names should not be treated as Wilds move names.

Wilds default and unlockable moves
The Icy Veins Wilds Palico Support Moves guide lists default moves including Place Paracorn, Provoke, two Sporenet songs, Let-‘Er-RRRip, Vigorwasp Delivery, and Purewasp Delivery. Its unlockable moves include Attract Vigorwasps, Flashfly Cage, Rath-from-Above, Plunderang, and Vigorwasp Revival; the guide associates them with quest or rank requirements. A familiar name such as Flashfly Cage does not make the Wilds move the same system as the World gadget.
Wilds move controls and version note
The Icy Veins guide, updated October 8, 2025, reports that Ver. 1.3 added an option to toggle individual support moves through Palico Info at Base Camp. This is a version-specific guide report, not a claim that the World gadget controls changed. For further Wilds quest-sequence details, PC Gamer has a Palico Support Moves guide.
