Download the ZIP from Square Enix’s official benchmark page, extract it, and run ffxiv-dawntrail-bench.exe. It is separate from the game, and its score is a reference—not a guarantee that FINAL FANTASY XIV will run on your computer.
What the Dawntrail benchmark does
The benchmark plays scenes from FINAL FANTASY XIV and calculates a performance score for the Windows version. It also includes a character creator. You do not need a Square Enix account or a connection to game servers to use either feature, according to Square Enix’s benchmark overview.
The benchmark is a separate download and does not include the Windows game. Square Enix says it is provided as-is and is not guaranteed to operate on every system. Its download page cautions: “The performance of the benchmark and FINAL FANTASY XIV may differ. Please use this software for reference only.”
Check whether your PC is compatible

- Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit.
- A graphics card and drivers compatible with DirectX 11.
- A display resolution of at least 1024×720.
Mac and 32-bit operating systems are not supported. If the software prompts you to update .NET Framework, Square Enix advises installing the update. The benchmark overview lists the ZIP as approximately 3.97 GB; check the official page for the current download details before starting, as file information may change.
Download and launch the benchmark
- Open Square Enix’s official Dawntrail benchmark page and download the Windows ZIP file.
- Extract the ZIP to a folder on your PC. Run the benchmark from that extracted folder rather than trying to launch the executable inside the archive.
- Open
ffxiv-dawntrail-bench.exe. - Choose a display language, read the software license, and select Agree only if you accept its terms.
- Review the system information and choose the benchmark settings in the launcher.
The overview lists Japanese, English, German, and French language support. The official page names the download file ffxiv-dawntrail-bench_v11.zip, but check Square Enix’s page for the current version and file details rather than assuming that name remains current.

Choose settings and run a scored test
The launcher shows system information and provides five graphics presets: Maximum, High (Desktop), High (Laptop), Standard (Desktop), and Standard (Laptop). You can also save up to three custom presets or import settings from an installed version of FINAL FANTASY XIV. Higher resolutions and graphics settings put more load on the system; DLSS is available only with a supported graphics card.
Listed resolution choices include 1024×768, 1280×720, 1920×1080, and 3840×2160. Other choices can depend on your monitor. If you want to compare your own runs, keep the resolution, preset, and other settings consistent so you are comparing like with like.

- Select the graphics preset and resolution you want to test.
- If desired, choose a character made with the included creator for the benchmark scenes.
- Leave looped playback off for a scored run. The launcher offers looping, but looped playback does not produce a score and caps the maximum frame rate at 60 FPS to reduce system stress.
- Start the benchmark and let the cutscenes finish. They take approximately six minutes; stopping playback early means no result is displayed.
The first run can take longer because the benchmark may optimize the GPU. Square Enix says this process can negatively affect the score, so running the benchmark again may provide a more accurate assessment.
Find the score report and screenshots
The launcher can save a text report containing the score and system specifications in the same folder as the executable. When scoring is enabled and the required folder exists, the benchmark also automatically takes six screenshots at predetermined points and saves them in a screenshots folder beside the software.

Understand what the score means
Square Enix’s guide groups scores into these bands. They estimate how well the game may run; they are not promises of a particular frame rate, graphics quality, or successful game launch.

Use the score as a starting point for understanding performance under the settings you selected, not as a universal buying threshold. Square Enix notes that scores can be up to 20% lower than those from the Endwalker benchmark on identical system specifications, following revised requirements alongside the graphical update. That is Square Enix’s stated comparison, not an independent prediction for every PC.

Create a character and reuse its appearance
You can use the included character creator offline without signing in. Appearance data is saved locally under My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Benchmark) and can only be used on the PC where the Windows benchmark was installed. Square Enix says the appearance data may be carried over when creating a character in the retail release.
Square Enix lists version 1.1 changes dated June 3, 2024, including character model adjustments, removal of limb darkening in the creator, lighting changes, and removal of the Texture Filtering option from the Graphics Settings 4 tab. The official Lodestone also announced an updated Windows benchmark. Check the download page for the version currently offered.
