Start by checking PlayStation Network status, then run the PS5’s connection test. If PSN is online, restart the console and router, compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if possible, and follow the guidance for your exact error code before changing router settings. A network error can come from the service, your home connection, or the console’s network setup.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
Before troubleshooting your router, check PlayStation Network status. PlayStation’s error guidance advises checking for outages or maintenance. If a service is unavailable, changing settings on your home network is unlikely to fix that service-side problem; wait and try again later.
2. Test the connection and restart your equipment
- On PS5, open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Menu wording can vary by system software version.
- Restart the PS5 and run the test again.
- Turn off your router and, where applicable, your modem. Wait at least five minutes before turning them back on. Once the network reconnects, test the PS5 again.
For a lost-server connection, PlayStation also suggests signing in again and reconfiguring the network if needed. These are troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that the problem will stay fixed.
3. Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi
If you can, connect the PS5 directly to the router with a LAN cable and see whether the connection still drops. PlayStation recommends using a wired connection where possible. If Ethernet works reliably but Wi-Fi does not, the comparison points toward a wireless issue; it is a practical diagnostic clue, not a formal test protocol from PlayStation.

- Move a Wi-Fi-connected PS5 closer to the router.
- Reduce obstructions between the console and router where practical.
- Consider whether other devices in the same location also lose Wi-Fi.
A LAN cable is useful for this check only if you can connect the console to the router. It will not fix an outage at PlayStation Network or a problem with your ISP.
4. Verify the network setup
Reconnect to Wi-Fi
Check that you selected the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID), entered the right password, and are using a security method supported by your router and console. To set up a connection, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, choose the saved Wi-Fi network, and connect.

Set up a wired connection
With the LAN cable connected, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect.
Check IPv6 compatibility
PlayStation states: “PS5 consoles support IPv6 network connections but do not support IPv6-only network connections.” If your router is configured for IPv6 only, PlayStation says to change it to provide IPv4 as well. Ask your router manufacturer or ISP for instructions specific to your equipment.

5. Use your exact error code
Network errors do not all have the same cause or remedy. Find the code shown on the PS5 and use the matching entry in PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index. Its entries include messages about being unable to connect to a server, a connection timing out, maintenance, and failure to connect to the internet. Follow the instructions for the specific code rather than applying settings suggested for a different error.
For example, PlayStation’s page for NW-102650-4 lists possible router-related steps, including opening specified ports, setting a static IP address, or temporarily changing DNS. That guidance is tied to that error; it does not mean these changes are appropriate for every connection problem.

6. Ask for help before changing advanced router settings
PlayStation’s setup guidance lists advanced connection settings such as IP address, DHCP host name, DNS, MTU, and proxy. Its supported PS5 Pro setup also includes Multi-Link Operation. If you are unfamiliar with these options, PlayStation advises asking your ISP or network administrator. The same caution applies before port forwarding, changing addressing or DNS, or updating router firmware: use the router vendor’s instructions or get help, particularly on a managed, shared, or workplace network.
For NW-102650-4, PlayStation lists TCP ports 80, 443, 3478, 3479, and 3480, and UDP ports 3478, 3479, and 49152–65535. The error guidance recommends asking your ISP about port or router settings. Do not treat this list as a universal port-forwarding prescription for every PS5 error.

When to contact your ISP or network administrator
- Other devices also lose their internet connection, or your router cannot reach the internet.
- The PS5 works over Ethernet but repeatedly drops over Wi-Fi despite improved placement.
- Your network is IPv6-only, or you need help changing router, port, IP, DNS, or firmware settings.
- The code-specific PlayStation steps do not resolve the issue.
If PSN status is normal and the PS5 still cannot connect, give your ISP or network administrator the exact error code and the results of the connection test. For console-specific error guidance, consult PlayStation’s NP-104627-0 support page or the error-code index as appropriate.
