The AWS outage on October 19–20, 2025, was linked to user-reported problems with games including Fortnite and Roblox, as well as services such as Snapchat, Netflix and Disney+. PlayStation Network is less clear: some players reported hiccups, but Sony’s status page did not show a broad outage. AWS’s report explains the cloud-service failures behind the disruption, but does not provide a complete list of affected games or customers.
Which games were affected by the AWS outage?
The strongest named game examples in contemporary reporting are Fortnite and Roblox. The Associated Press reported that users experienced trouble with both during the outage. That establishes reported user impact, not that either game was entirely offline for every player or that AWS confirmed them as customers affected by this event.
Other gaming outlets also reported game disruptions, but the available accounts do not establish a complete, authoritative game-by-game list or consistent start and recovery times. Treat additional titles in contemporaneous lists as reported cases, not as a definitive roster.
Was Fortnite down?
Users reported problems with Fortnite during the October 2025 incident, according to the Associated Press. The report does not establish a single outage window or show that all players were affected. Epic’s status page listed Fortnite and related services as operational when checked on October 8, 2026; that live status snapshot says nothing about the historical outage. Check Epic Games status for current conditions.

Was Roblox down?
The Associated Press also named Roblox among services for which users reported trouble. Roblox’s status page listed its systems as operational when checked on October 8, 2026, and showed a resolved site issue from October 5, 2026. Those current and later records do not establish the precise effect or duration of the October 2025 AWS disruption. Check Roblox status for the latest service information.
Did PlayStation Network go down?
Not according to the available evidence of a platform-wide outage. Push Square reported that some players experienced PSN hiccups, while the PSN tracker was not flagging an issue. PlayStation LifeStyle likewise noted that Sony’s status website showed services in green. The careful conclusion is that players reported intermittent problems, but these reports do not prove PSN as a whole went down because of AWS. See Push Square’s coverage and PlayStation LifeStyle’s coverage.

What other services were reported affected?
The Associated Press reported user trouble involving a broad mix of consumer and financial services. It also reported that Coinbase and Signal said they experienced outage-related trouble. These are contemporary reports of user or company-reported impact, not an AWS-verified list of third-party customers.
| Service or category | What was reported |
|---|---|
| Games | Users reported problems with Fortnite and Roblox (Associated Press). |
| Social and communications | User trouble was reported for Snapchat; Coinbase and Signal said they had trouble related to the outage (Associated Press). |
| Streaming and entertainment | User trouble was reported for Netflix and Disney+ (Associated Press). |
| Other apps and services | User trouble was reported for Robinhood, the McDonald’s app and Canvas; Amazon services were also disrupted (Associated Press). |
The list is selective, not exhaustive. AWS’s post-event report describes AWS services and infrastructure impacts but does not identify the third-party games or consumer services that depended on them.

What happened at AWS?
AWS says the incident ran from 11:48 p.m. PDT on October 19 to 2:20 p.m. PDT on October 20, 2025. Its technical origin was in the US-EAST-1 region in Northern Virginia. The initiating issue affected DynamoDB: API errors increased and new connections could not be established.
According to AWS’s post-event report, a latent race condition in automated DNS management let an older DNS plan overwrite a newer one. Cleanup then removed IP addresses for the regional endpoint, and subsequent automated updates could not repair the inconsistent state. AWS says manual operator intervention was required.

The regional failure spread through services that depended on DynamoDB and through systems involved in recovery. AWS documented impacts involving EC2 new instance launches and networking, Network Load Balancer health checks, Lambda, SQS, ECS, EKS, Fargate, Amazon Connect, STS, console sign-in and Redshift, among others. Existing EC2 instances launched before the incident remained healthy, AWS said; new launches and dependent capabilities experienced distinct failure and recovery timelines. This was not a uniform shutdown of every AWS service.

The Associated Press reported that Downdetector recorded more than 11 million user reports of problems involving over 2,500 companies. These are reports, not a verified count of unique people or confirmed outages. AP also reported that AWS said 64 internal AWS services were affected; that figure refers to AWS services, not third-party games or companies.

How to check whether a game is down now
The October 2025 reports are historical. They cannot tell you whether a game or platform is experiencing trouble today. Check the affected company’s official status page and note the timestamp of its latest update. For AWS-related events, AWS says its Health Dashboard reports public events, affected regions, severity, timelines and other affected AWS services. Account-specific events require signing in; service history covers interruptions from the preceding 12 months.
Quick Recap
- Check the game or platform’s official status page for its current service condition.
- Look at the latest update time and whether the notice describes a full outage, degraded performance or a resolved incident.
- If the game’s own status is unclear and the problem appears tied to AWS, check the AWS Health Dashboard for the relevant region and time period.
