He did not say Leon Kennedy was absent from the game. Later official coverage confirmed Leon and Grace Ashcroft as Requiem’s two protagonists.
What did the producer say about the Leon rumours?
In an interview published by Stevivor on November 17, 2025, Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa cautioned players against treating unofficial material as confirmed. Stevivor noted that his answers were delivered through an interpreter.
“Apart from any official information that Capcom has released, the rest is more detective work [on the part of players]. So I would suggest to please not take everything at face value.”
He also said Capcom could not confirm information it had not officially released. His specific “fake news” comment concerned claims tied to a recent image of Leon wearing an eye patch, including speculation about Leon DLC or a new costume:

“There has been a photo lately of Leon with an eye patch, and just basically saying there’s a DLC or a new costume for Leon — but just to make sure, these are all fake news.”
That statement rejected those particular claims. It was not a blanket denial that Leon would appear in Requiem.

Was Leon confirmed for Resident Evil Requiem?
Yes. In an official PlayStation Blog interview published January 29, 2026, director Koshi Nakanishi discussed Leon and Grace as the game’s two protagonists and described how their sections differ. Leon’s gameplay leans toward action, while Grace’s is more focused on frightening survival. Their stories also involve shared locations where actions and items can carry between their sections.
The dates matter: Kumazawa’s November 2025 remarks addressed unofficial claims then circulating about an image, DLC and a costume. The later official interview provided context about Leon’s role in the game; it does not turn the producer’s earlier response into a denial.

What is Resident Evil Requiem?
Capcom describes Requiem as a survival horror game and the ninth main installment in the series. Its official platform announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and gives a release date of February 27, 2026. Platform availability does not establish retailer stock, format or current price.
Capcom’s September 16, 2025 announcement reported more than 174 million cumulative Resident Evil game sales worldwide as of June 30, 2025. That is a franchise-wide figure, not a Requiem sales total.
