Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a substantial, capable Switch 2 port: it brings the full base game and Phantom Liberty to handheld play, with graphics modes and controls built around the system. The trade-off is clear in technical analysis: image resolution shifts dynamically, and demanding expansion areas can strain performance. It’s a good fit if portability matters most, but players seeking the strongest visual presentation or steadier performance may prefer another platform.
What’s included in the Switch 2 edition?
CD PROJEKT RED released Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. The package includes the base game, the Phantom Liberty expansion, and updates released since the game’s original launch. It is available digitally and as a physical 64 GB game card. CD PROJEKT RED’s release announcement confirms the contents and formats.
This makes the edition a substantial portable package, though anyone comparing prices or buying across platforms should check that the other edition includes Phantom Liberty too. A Nintendo Switch 2 is required. The physical game card does not establish a need for a separate storage card.
How does it look and run?
The available technical findings come from Digital Foundry’s analysis, summarized by Nintendo Life on June 13, 2025—not from testing for this review. The game offers Quality and Performance modes in both handheld and docked play. Quality targets 30 frames per second (fps), while Performance targets 40 fps. Resolution scales dynamically rather than staying at one fixed value.

| Play mode | Reported dynamic resolution range | Frame-rate target |
|---|---|---|
| Handheld Performance | 640×360 to 1280×720 | 40 fps |
| Handheld Quality | 800×450 to 1440×810 | 30 fps |
| Docked Performance | 960×540 to 1920×1080 | 40 fps |
| Docked Quality | 1280×720 to 1920×1080 | 30 fps |
These are the resolution ranges and targets reported in Nintendo Life’s summary of Digital Foundry’s technical review; they are not guaranteed output resolutions or frame rates in every scene. The same analysis reports that the main story generally holds Quality’s 30 fps target, but complex areas of Phantom Liberty can fall to 20–25 fps. Performance is reported to be smoother indoors, with less consistency in outdoor scenes and busy shootouts.
Quality or Performance?
Choose Quality if you value a sharper image and are comfortable with a 30 fps target. Performance targets 40 fps and is the more natural starting point for players who prioritize responsiveness, but the dynamic resolution can drop substantially and demanding scenes can still disrupt smoothness. Neither mode removes the compromises; the better fit depends on whether you notice image softness or frame-rate variation more.

Handheld or docked?
Handheld play is the port’s clearest advantage: Night City and the expansion are available away from a television. TechRadar’s August 3, 2025 reviewer preferred docked Performance mode, while finding the handheld visual reductions less noticeable on the smaller screen. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a universal result. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 display as 7.9 inches; a larger docked screen is more likely to make image softness noticeable. Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement gives the display and storage specifications.
Does the port make good use of Switch 2 controls?
The Switch 2 edition supports motion controls, gyro aiming, mouse controls, and touchscreen functions for menus and selected interface activities. These options give players alternatives to standard stick aiming and button navigation; they are features, not a guarantee that every player will prefer them. CD PROJEKT RED says the team had to develop and test new movement mechanics specifically for this version. As publishing tech QA analyst Jakub Smodrzak put it: “Cyberpunk 2077 is a near-five-year-old game we know inside out, so adding entirely new movement mechanics for the Nintendo Switch 2 version meant there were no existing test cases to fall back on.” The developer discusses the controls in its Switch 2 edition announcement.

Who should play it on Switch 2?
- Choose Switch 2 if portable access to the complete base game and Phantom Liberty is a priority, or if you want the option to play handheld and docked.
- Consider another platform if you prioritize the strongest image quality or steadier performance in demanding scenes. That’s a preference-based judgment, not a claim of a direct platform comparison here.
- Check your edition when comparing platforms: the Switch 2 Ultimate Edition includes Phantom Liberty and updates, but other editions may differ in content.
- Try the control options if you like motion, gyro, mouse, or touch input; the game also supports standard controls.
Verdict
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is a solid, unusually full-scale portable port, not a no-compromise version. Its complete content package, flexible play modes, and Switch 2-specific inputs make it appealing for portable play. Dynamic resolution and reported dips in demanding Phantom Liberty areas are meaningful costs, especially for players who care most about image clarity and consistent performance.
