Amanda the Adventurer 2 is a single-player horror puzzle adventure that builds on the first game’s unsettling cartoon tapes with a larger setting, more interactive episodes, and puzzles. Kyle LeClair’s review for Hardcore Gamer calls it a “fun adventure title,” praising its puzzles, performances, and blend of dread and humor while arguing that sloppy decisions and thin spots in the gameplay and story hold it back. That balanced take is a useful guide: the sequel offers an eerie, brisk mystery, but its appeal depends on how much you enjoy its puzzles and deliberately strange tone.

What is Amanda the Adventurer 2 about?

Developed by MANGLEDmaw Games and published by DreadXP, Amanda the Adventurer 2 released on Steam on October 22, 2024. It follows Riley Park after the events involving the attic tapes in the first game. Riley travels to the Kensdale Public Library, where a masked figure connected to Riley’s late Aunt Kate asks for help finding something she left there. The figure also warns that an entity is drawn to the tapes, while Amanda, aware of Riley, tries to find a way out.

The premise carries the original game’s uneasy contrast between a children’s cartoon and a more disturbing mystery into a new location. The library gives the story room to bring in new companions and explore more of the history around Amanda, Riley, Aunt Kate, and the production of the show. The Steam listing describes the setup and its features.

What do you do in Amanda the Adventurer 2?

The game alternates between watching interactive cartoon episodes and exploring the library. Your responses can affect what happens in the cartoon world, and some sequences ask Riley to get up and look for items requested by the show—or choose not to. Puzzles connect those tape interactions to the surrounding mystery and give exploration a practical purpose.

That mix is the sequel’s clearest change in shape: it is not only a sequence of tape puzzles. The larger library and the get-up interactions offer more movement between episodes, while the cartoon choices make player input more prominent. The official description establishes these features, but not how consistently choices branch or how much they alter the overall story; readers should not assume every response produces a major divergence.

Is Amanda the Adventurer 2 worth playing?

LeClair’s October 25, 2024 review for Hardcore Gamer, listed by Metacritic, gives a concise verdict: “Amanda the Adventurer 2 is a fun adventure title that delivers solid puzzles, great performances and a nice mixture of dread and humor, but a few sloppy decisions and a lack of anything substantial in either the gameplay or story areas hold it back.” He adds: “Still, if you can get past those issues (and the first puzzle), there’s a nice, quick romp through an eerie library here that’s worth checking out.”

That is one critic’s assessment, not a broad critical consensus: the Metacritic page captured for this review listed one critic review and said four were required for a Metascore. Its strengths are a good fit for players seeking puzzles and atmospheric oddness more than a deep or consistently substantial story. Its reservations matter if you want every puzzle to feel smoothly presented or expect the sequel’s mechanics and lore to develop in depth throughout.

Steam’s user-review percentages are a separate, changeable measure rather than a critic score. The captured listing showed 83% positive from 1,446 all-time reviews and 68% positive from 16 recent reviews; those figures are a snapshot, not a stable rating, so check the live Steam page for current numbers.

Do you need to play the first Amanda the Adventurer first?

The sequel begins after Riley has discovered the attic tapes, and its central mystery involves characters and events established around the first game. A newcomer can understand the immediate setup—a library, a masked figure, and a cartoon character trying to escape—but playing the original first is the clearer route if you want the attic-tape context and the relationship to Aunt Kate to land with their intended history. The sequel’s listing does not state that prior play is a requirement.

Is Amanda the Adventurer 2 scary, and is it suitable for children?

The game uses a bright cartoon presentation as contrast for psychological horror; the cheerful surface should not be taken as a sign that it is intended for children. The developer’s Steam content description lists “Blood, mild language, psychological horror.” That brief note is not a detailed age-rating guide, so consider the specific content and the player’s sensitivity to horror before recommending it.
