Graveyard Keeper turns cemetery management into a business plan with a body count: tend the graves, gather resources, craft goods, take quests and explore dungeons, all while treating the dead as potential inventory. That macabre premise is the game’s clearest hook—and the tension at its center. The official pitch promises an expanding management sim, but makes the work of expansion part of its dark comedy. Whether those routines feel satisfying or repetitive depends on how much you enjoy returning to the same interconnected tasks.
What do you do in Graveyard Keeper?
Lazy Bear Games describes it as “the most inaccurate medieval cemetery management sim of all time.” The official overview casts the graveyard as the starting point for a broader operation: build and manage it, expand into other ventures, gather resources, craft items, complete quests and explore dungeons. The premise is less a single cemetery-keeping task than a chain of activities organized around making the enterprise grow.
That chain gives the game its central contrast. The cemetery is a place of care and upkeep, but the developer’s description also frames bodies and body parts as resources to be handled for profit. The joke is not separate from the management concept: the grim materials are folded into the same practical logic as gathering and crafting. The developer also calls the game “a love story,” another deliberately incongruous note in its promotional framing. Those are the studio’s descriptions, not independent verdicts on how well the humor lands.
Do the macabre routines work?
The premise has an immediate comic bite because it puts an ordinary management-sim impulse—turn available materials into a more productive operation—against the most unsettling possible inventory. The game’s stated activities also give the premise room to expand beyond graveyard upkeep, into crafting, quests and dungeon exploration.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
But a strong premise does not by itself settle the question of pacing. The same gathering and crafting that support a growing business can feel like purposeful routines or repetitive chores, depending on how clearly the game explains its systems and how rewarding progression feels. Without firsthand play, it would be misleading to claim that the tasks are consistently delightful, that the systems are intuitive, or that the cemetery remains central throughout. Those are the practical questions to weigh when deciding whether its particular blend of management and morbid comedy suits you.

Is Graveyard Keeper worth playing?
Its strongest reason to stand out is the specificity of its premise: a cemetery-management business whose resource economy draws its dark humor from the treatment of the dead. The official activity list suggests a wider progression loop than grave upkeep alone, with ventures, crafting, quests and dungeons in the mix. If that combination appeals to you, the game has a distinctive concept to explore. Whether the routines and progression sustain that appeal is an experiential judgment, not something the premise or store listing can prove.
