Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a visually ambitious Unreal Engine 5 RPG, but calling it a universal “technical benchmark” would overstate what the available measurements show. The clearest guide is the official PC target—1080p at 30 FPS on Low or 60 FPS on High—alongside a third-party test of one demanding early area, published in April 2025. That test is useful context, not a result for every PC, scene, or current game build.
What kind of game is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Sandfall Interactive’s turn-based RPG is set in a world inspired by Belle Époque France. Its combat combines turn-based decisions with real-time dodging, parrying and counterattacks, rhythm-based combos, and free-aim targeting, according to the official Epic Games Store listing. Epic identifies Unreal Engine 5, lists Kepler Interactive as publisher, and gives the release date as April 24, 2025.
What are the PC requirements?
Epic’s published specifications pair two performance targets with hardware requirements. They are the store’s stated targets, not a guarantee of identical performance in every area or on every system.
| Target | Operating system | CPU | Memory | Graphics | Storage and API |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum: 1080p, 30 FPS, Low | Windows 10 | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | 8 GB | Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB, AMD RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A380 6 GB | 55 GB SSD; DirectX 12 |
| Recommended: 1080p, 60 FPS, High | Windows 11 | Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | 16 GB | Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB | 55 GB SSD; DirectX 12 |
These are distinct official targets: minimum is not the same promise as recommended. If your system is near the minimum tier, use Low at 1080p as the starting point rather than assuming the recommended 60 FPS target. A faster graphics card alone does not establish the result; CPU, memory, settings, and the scene being played also matter.

How does Expedition 33 perform on PC?
There is no built-in benchmark, so published performance depends on the scene chosen. In an analysis published April 28, 2025, DSOGaming tested the Prologue starting area, which the author described as one of the more demanding early areas. The results below belong to that test—not to an official benchmark, every part of the game, or a verified 2026 build.
DSOGaming’s test system used a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 32 GB DDR5-6000, with Windows 10 64-bit, GeForce driver 576.15, and Radeon Adrenalin 25.4.1. Tested graphics cards included the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080, RTX 5090, RX 6900 XT, RX 7900 XTX, and RX 9070 XT.

| Resolution and preset | DSOGaming’s reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p, Epic | The RTX 3080 did not provide a smooth experience. The RX 6900 XT averaged 62 FPS, with drops to 53 FPS. | The average alone does not describe the dips; the RX 6900 XT result is specific to this Prologue test. |
| 1440p, Epic | Only the RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 exceeded 60 FPS. | This is a high preset and a demanding scene, not a minimum requirement for playing the game. |
| Native 4K, Epic | The RTX 5090 stayed above 60 FPS throughout the test. | A result for one high-end GPU in this outlet’s setup. |
| 4K, High / Medium / Low | On the RTX 5090, DSOGaming reported 80–92 FPS on High, above 99 FPS on Medium, and 119–132 FPS on Low. | These ranges are from the same outlet’s run; they should not be generalized to other GPUs or scenes. |
DSOGaming also observed image softness and sharpening concerns in its native-resolution tests, and said DLSS Quality or XeSS Quality looked better in its test. That is the reviewer’s visual assessment, not a universal image-quality rule. Upscaling can change both image appearance and performance, so a comparison is meaningful only when its upscaler and quality mode are reported.
Does the game have a benchmark tool?
No built-in benchmark is reported by DSOGaming. Its April 2025 figures come from gameplay in the Prologue starting area rather than a repeatable in-game benchmark sequence. If you compare results from different reviews or your own system, check that the game version, scene, resolution, graphics preset, GPU, driver, and upscaler mode are alike. Average FPS by itself can also conceal dips or uneven frame pacing.

What changed with upscaling and frame generation?
Support has changed over time, so older performance coverage should not be read as a current feature list. TechRadar’s report on version 1.4.0 says the update added DLSS and XeSS Frame Generation and Low Latency Mode for compatible Nvidia and Intel GPUs. At the time of that report, the developer said FSR support was still being explored; that dated statement does not establish the state of FSR in the current build. See TechRadar’s coverage of version 1.4.0 for the update context.
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames and is not a substitute for reporting the underlying rendering performance. When evaluating a result, identify whether frame generation is enabled and whether low-latency support is active. Check the game’s current patch notes or settings before relying on a dated feature report.

Is it a technical benchmark?
It is fair to call Expedition 33 a demanding, visually ambitious PC game and a useful test case for high-resolution graphics. The 2025 results show that even powerful cards faced a substantial workload at Epic settings in DSOGaming’s selected scene. But one outlet’s test cannot establish an industry-wide benchmark, a universal hardware threshold, or performance in the game’s other areas. The official 1080p targets remain the more practical starting point for deciding whether a PC meets the publisher’s stated expectations.
Is a Switch 2 version confirmed?
No Switch 2 release had been announced in GamesRadar’s July 2026 report. The outlet quoted creative director Guillaume Broche saying, “We are interested in looking for a way to do it, but it’s too early for us to announce anything at this point.” CTO and co-founder Tom Guillermin described it as “a big technical challenge,” citing the game’s visual ambition and the Switch 2’s lower power compared with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Those comments reflect the status reported at that time, not a permanent answer about a future port. GamesRadar’s July 2026 coverage reports the interview and its qualifications.
