Robot Unicorn Attack is a 2010 endless runner whose spare jump-and-dash loop collides with candy-colored fantasy imagery and Erasure’s “Always.” That unlikely mix gave a small Flash game a distinctive personality. Its original browser and mobile releases are documented, but current official playability has not been verified.
What is Robot Unicorn Attack?
Developed by Spiritonin Media Games and published by Adult Swim Games, Robot Unicorn Attack first appeared in browsers on February 4, 2010, according to MobyGames. Former Adult Swim Games executive Chris “CJ” Johnston separately recalled that date for the Flash launch. MobyGames also records releases for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
It is a single-player endless runner: the unicorn moves forward automatically, and the player responds to the course rather than steering through a conventional level with a finish line. The premise is simple, but its presentation is deliberately extravagant—bright, dreamlike scenery around a mechanical unicorn racing through the sky.
How does the run work?
The essential rhythm is to read the next platform, time a jump over a gap, and dash through crystal stars. Pixies and broken stars add points, while maintaining streaks increases scoring. The run gets faster, putting more pressure on each decision.

- Collect and chain: Pixies and broken stars contribute points; streaks raise the score.
A game consists of three “wishes,” or lives. The scores from all three runs are combined, so one mistake does not erase the whole attempt. The small action set makes the game easy to understand: success depends on timing and rhythm, not learning a complicated moveset. Specific key mappings can vary by version and are not established by the available release records.
Why did it become memorable?
A signature song against a sugar-bright world
Erasure’s 1994 song “Always” is not incidental background: it is one of the original game’s defining ingredients. Its earnest, soaring pop sound against a surreal parade of stars, rainbows, and robotic-unicorn imagery creates a striking tonal contrast. The game’s identity comes from the combination as much as from the runner mechanics.

A modest Flash project with a sudden audience
Johnston described the production as a quick four-week cycle. In his personal recollection, “The game launched well, but didn’t take off until later in February when 4chan discovered it and it EXPLODED.” That is Johnston’s account of how its audience grew, rather than a formal audience report. A York University-hosted research paper reported more than 32 million plays on AdultSwim.com since release; that is a historical secondary-source figure, not a current play count or an official Adult Swim tally.
How does it relate to the other Robot Unicorn Attack games?
The series includes themed editions and later entries such as Heavy Metal, Christmas Edition, Evolution, Robot Unicorn Attack 2, and Robot Unicorn Attack Forever. Those names indicate that the franchise explored different themes and sequels, but the available information does not establish a reliable feature-by-feature comparison, current platform status, or current pricing. The original is best understood as the Flash-era game whose defining pairing is its simple runner loop and “Always.”

Can you play Robot Unicorn Attack today?
The documented browser, iPhone, iPad, and Android releases establish that the game was distributed on those platforms historically; they do not establish that any version remains available or works now. A 2011 Engadget report said an Android version was due the next day and that the free Flash game was then available on AdultSwim.com. That is evidence of past access, not a current download route.
Adult Swim’s sitemap still lists Robot Unicorn Attack, but a listing by itself does not demonstrate that the page loads or that the game is playable. Current official playability, mobile-store listings, and the status of preserved or emulated copies have not been verified. Treat any claim that it is presently playable as unconfirmed unless it is checked against a live, legitimate source.
