Riot Games said players raised $6 million USD for charity through League of Legends’ Dawnbringer Karma skin-and-bundle fundraiser. The April 2020 announcement reported the total after the skin, released in December 2019 as the game’s 1,000th, became the first major fundraiser for Riot’s Social Impact Fund. A 2023 Riot retrospective described the proceeds as “just over $6M.”
Which Riot Games fundraiser raised $6 million?
The figure refers to the Dawnbringer Karma campaign in League of Legends, not to the Social Impact Fund’s total across all its projects. Riot’s April 10, 2020 announcement said players worldwide had collectively raised $6 million USD. In a November 28, 2023 retrospective, Riot said the skin and its bundle raised “just over $6M.”
Those are Riot’s reported figures; the cited announcements do not describe an independently audited total. The fundraiser followed the 2019 launch of Riot’s Social Impact Fund, which the company introduced during League of Legends’ tenth-anniversary celebrations. Riot identifies Dawnbringer Karma, released in December 2019 as the game’s 1,000th skin, as the fund’s first major fundraiser.
How did players vote on the charities?
From April 10–23, 2020, players could vote in the League of Legends client for a nonprofit in their region. Riot said it worked with local offices and GlobalGiving to select 46 nonprofit partners. The winning organizations were to receive grants from regional charity pools, with the size of each pool based on that region’s proportional sales during the fundraiser.

Riot’s 2020 announcement set out this allocation for each regional pool:
- The nonprofit receiving the most votes would get 50% of the pool.
- The second-place nonprofit would get 25%.
- The third-place nonprofit would get 25%.
- Each nonprofit was guaranteed a minimum grant of $10,000.
Riot’s announcement described the partner list and grant rules, but the cited materials do not establish the final payment received by each of the 46 organizations. Riot’s 2023 retrospective calls the regional vote the first time players could choose charities in their own regions and says the approach became an annual Charity Voting Campaign. The 2020 rules above describe that campaign specifically; Riot’s later general explainer should not be taken as proof that every subsequent vote used identical terms.

How does the $6 million compare with Riot’s broader charity totals?
Riot’s Social Impact Fund supports organizations around the world and is a separate entity established in partnership with ImpactAssets. Riot says ImpactAssets reviews and approves proposed grants, investments, or other support. The fund’s stated priorities are Education, Opportunity, Citizenship, and Sustainability; for player-facing campaign nonprofit selection, Riot says GlobalGiving works with its local offices.
Campaign figures and cumulative fund totals cover different scopes. Riot’s 2023 retrospective and its 2023 Annual Impact Report said the fund had raised $50 million cumulatively by 2023. The report also listed separate 2023 campaign figures: $4.5 million allocated through the Charity Voting Campaign, $3.95 million raised through the Soul Fighter Event, and $3.3 million raised through VALORANT’s Give Back Bundle. For the listed Soul Fighter items, 20% of proceeds went to the fund; for the VALORANT bundle, 50% of weapon-skin proceeds and 100% of accessory proceeds went to it.

Riot’s Social Impact Fund page displayed $74.5 million raised, 450 organizations supported, and 28 regions on October 8, 2026. Those are current cumulative page figures, not the amount raised by the Dawnbringer Karma campaign, and may change as Riot updates the page.
