Jagex’s 2025 Pride-content decision prompted reported internal objections from employees and visible protests from some RuneScape players. CEO Jon Bellamy—not a newly released in-game boss—defended the decision as a way to protect continuity and limit exposure to backlash. Whether Jagex held an official Pride event in 2026 is not established by the official announcements reviewed here.
What Jagex changed for Pride Month 2025
On April 25, 2025, Bellamy reportedly told staff that RuneScape and Old School RuneScape would not receive new Pride Month content that year. The two games were handled differently: GameDeveloper reported that Old School RuneScape discontinued its Pride mini-quest for 2025, while RuneScape retained Tales of Pride without developing new content. Community-organized Pride marches were still allowed.
That distinction matters: the change concerned official, newly developed in-game content, not a blanket ban on players organizing marches in the games.
Employees reportedly pushed back
According to GameDeveloper’s reporting, Jagex employees volunteered to finish the content in their own time and suggested a Pride parade that would not require development work. On May 15, employees sent management an open letter asking for annual seasonal Pride events in both games and for work on 2025 content to restart.

Jagex’s response, as reported by GameDeveloper, said: “our job is not to use the game as an outlet for our own views, but to craft worlds that serve our players, offering immersion, escape and meaning.” The statement set out the company’s position; it does not establish how players broadly viewed the decision.
What Bellamy said about the decision
In September 2025, Bellamy described the choice in terms of maintaining continuity and protecting the company amid a changing political climate. He said the events had become controversial and framed his role as one of governance and protection. Those are management’s stated reasons, not evidence that the decision actually reduced business risk.
Bellamy also said, “If there are tough decisions to be made next year, we’ll make them,” in an interview reported by GameDeveloper. The comment described how Jagex might respond to future conditions; it was not a definitive announcement that a later Pride event would be canceled.
How some players responded
Reporting documented player backlash, including a “No gay, no pay” protest campaign. PC Gamer’s coverage records visible protest, but the available reporting does not establish how many players took part, what the entire player base thought, or whether the decision changed membership numbers.

Did Jagex hold a Pride event in 2026?
The 2026 outcome remains unconfirmed by the official material reviewed here. Jagex’s October 2026 RuneFest announcement and May 2026 Old School RuneScape Summer Campfire recap do not establish whether an official Pride event took place. A May 2026 community discussion asks about a Pride event, but a question from players is not confirmation of an event—or of its cancellation.
So the confirmed story is the 2025 rollback, employee objections, Bellamy’s public rationale, and reports of player protest. The available sources do not settle what Jagex did for Pride in 2026.
