Its appearance during the story on Origin Isle is not the same as unlocking its full hunt: the cited progression places that hunt at Master Rank 99, in the assignment To the Very Ends with You. In battle, watch for its changing spikes—breaking enlarged spikes can topple it.
What is Ruiner Nergigante?
Ruiner Nergigante is a battle-hardened variant of Nergigante, introduced in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The Monster Hunter Wiki describes it with darker coloring and metallic spikes alongside its regular spikes. Its fictional ecology frames its attacks on other Elder Dragons as a consequence of hunting powerful prey and consuming bioenergy, rather than a deliberate effort to protect the ecosystem. Monster Hunter Wiki: Ruiner Nergigante.
For players looking to encounter it, the relevant game is Monster Hunter World: Iceborne; platform, edition, and current availability depend on the retailer listing.
When does the full Ruiner Nergigante hunt unlock?
The Origin Isle sequence near the end of the Iceborne story is a story appearance, not the full Guiding Lands hunt. The cited gameplay reference says the full hunt becomes available at MR99 through the assignment To the Very Ends with You. At MR100 or higher, Ruiner Nergigante can appear in any locale and in any Guiding Lands region at level 5 or higher. See the gameplay reference for the progression details.

#1 Best Overall
The story encounter has its own sequence: Ruiner appears on Origin Isle, is seemingly slain, and is dragged underground by Shara Ishvalda. It later reawakens and attacks Shara. That plot appearance should not be read as the separate full hunt unlock.
How do Ruiner Nergigante’s spikes work?
Its attacks draw on the head, forelimbs, wings, and tail. As spikes break, they regrow larger and whiter; some attacks then launch spikes around the monster. This creates a changing combat state rather than a separate monster or form.

- An import from Capcom
- Flame Queen Dragon Lunastra appeared in the major update to "Monster Hunter World,"
- Every scale, claw, fang and hair is carefully detailed
- Measures approximately 10.2 inches tall
- Regular spikes: Attacks and accumulated damage to body parts can break spikes.
- Enlarged, whiter spikes: These regrown spikes are a key opening. Damage them to topple Ruiner, shatter the spikes, and produce a dropped shiny, according to the gameplay reference.
- Spike-launching attacks: Be alert when the monster uses its spikes offensively; they can be sent outward around it.
The available references establish these broad behaviors, but not exact damage thresholds, weapon-specific hit zones, elemental weaknesses, or an optimal build. Avoid treating a particular weapon or skill setup as proven by these mechanics alone.
