Russia blocked Roblox on December 3, 2025, after its communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, accused the platform of hosting material it described as extremist or terrorist propaganda, calls for violent illegal acts, and “LGBT propaganda.” In June 2026, Meduza reported that the Ministry of Digital Development announced Roblox was no longer blocked. That announcement does not establish that every Roblox feature or supporting service is consistently accessible throughout Russia.
When did Russia block Roblox?
Roskomnadzor announced the access restriction on December 3, 2025. Interfax reported that users had begun complaining about access problems that day and quoted the regulator’s press service on the reasons it gave.
Why did Russia block Roblox?
Roskomnadzor said it had registered repeated dissemination on Roblox of material involving propaganda or justification of extremist and terrorist activity, calls for illegal violent actions, and LGBT propaganda. The regulator also criticized Roblox’s internal moderation and described content in its gaming environment as inappropriate and potentially harmful to children’s spiritual and moral development. These are the regulator’s stated allegations and assessments, as reported by Interfax; they are not independently established findings.
Interfax translated the regulator’s press service as saying: “Roskomnadzor has restricted user access to the U.S. Internet service Roblox over registered facts of massive and repeated dissemination of materials with propaganda and justification of extremist and terrorist activities, calls for committing illegal violent actions and LGBT propaganda.” The report also quoted the regulator saying that monitoring had repeatedly confirmed the “inability of the internal moderation system to ensure 100% security of the materials appearing on the platform.” That phrase is part of the regulator’s statement, not a measured or independently assessed moderation rate.

Is Roblox unblocked in Russia now?
Meduza reported on June 10, 2026, that Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development had announced Roblox was no longer blocked, following discussions and commitments concerning the protection of Russian users. The source available for that announcement is Meduza’s report, rather than the ministry’s original release.
A reported lifting of a national block is not proof that all users can access every part of Roblox. The available information does not confirm nationwide, feature-by-feature availability as of October 8, 2026, including for services such as chat or creator tools.
