Rockstar’s “remember this device” option is for skipping future verification-code entry; it is not a promise that the launcher will never ask you to sign in again.
First identify which sign-in prompt keeps returning
- Password prompt: The launcher is asking you to authenticate to your Rockstar account. The 2-Step Verification remembered-device option does not guarantee a persistent launcher session.
- Verification-code prompt: The remembered-device setting for 2-Step Verification is the relevant option. Rockstar says it can bypass code entry on later sign-ins from a device you have remembered. Its explanation is in Rockstar’s 2-Step Verification guidance, last updated May 20, 2024.
- Offline sign-in problem: This uses a separate “Remember Me” setting. Rockstar’s error 6000.80 instructions say to sign in online with “Remember Me” selected while Rockstar Games Services are available before trying offline sign-in.
- Error message or code: Use the remedy for that exact error rather than treating every repeated prompt as the same fault.
Rockstar explains that 2-Step Verification requires both the account password and a verification code, while remembering a device lets you bypass the code on later sign-ins from that device. It describes “Remember Me” separately for offline sign-in eligibility; the two options do different jobs.
Try these checks in order
- Record the exact prompt. Note whether it requests a password or a code, whether you are online or trying to play offline, and any displayed error number or wording. Avoid deleting local sign-in data before you know which issue you have.
- Use the setting that matches the prompt. For repeated 2-Step Verification codes, select the remembered-device option during verification. For offline sign-in, connect to the internet, sign in with “Remember Me” selected, and do so while Rockstar services are available.
- Check service status and your connection. Rockstar’s Launcher Connection Troubleshooting guide, last updated February 17, 2026, recommends checking Rockstar service availability and network conditions. Start with a working connection; if Wi-Fi is unstable, try a wired connection to see whether that changes the result. The guide also covers more involved checks, including connection speed, ports, DNS and router resets.
- Match any error-specific fix to the message. The options below are for their named errors, not general remedies for every sign-in prompt.
- Contact Rockstar Support if the prompt remains unexplained. Provide the exact wording or code and the steps you have already tried through Rockstar Support.
Use a fix only when its error matches
Error 6000.80
Rockstar says this error means the launcher cannot communicate with Rockstar Games Services. Check your credentials, service availability and connection. If you need offline play, first sign in online with “Remember Me” selected while services are available. The 6000.80 guidance, updated September 18, 2025, also discusses firewall or antivirus troubleshooting and DNS changes. Prefer checking appropriate firewall or antivirus exceptions and basic network conditions before considering any change to security protection.
Error 6000.87
Rockstar identifies error 6000.87 as a connection issue between your PC and Rockstar services. Its guidance, updated September 18, 2025, includes refreshing the local profile. That reset requires you to sign in again; Rockstar says the local profile details are recovered after sign-in and that this does not delete your account or saved games.

“We could not create a sign in token”
For this exact message, Rockstar says antivirus conflicts are a common cause and provides steps to add a Windows Defender exclusion for the launcher in its sign-in token troubleshooting article, updated May 2, 2024. Do not assume an antivirus conflict if you are seeing a different prompt.
Error 1000.104
Rockstar attributes error 1000.104 to corrupted cache files. Its targeted instructions, updated May 28, 2024, begin by deleting browser_cache_setting.dat; if that does not help, Rockstar suggests renaming the Rockstar Games folder and launching as administrator. These steps are for this cache error, not evidence that cache corruption explains an unrelated recurring sign-in prompt.

Understand the consequences before resetting local data
Deleting the launcher’s local profile is not a first-line fix for an unexplained “remember device” complaint: it resets auto sign-in settings and makes you sign in again. Rockstar’s launch troubleshooting guidance, updated February 24, 2026, describes this reset and its sign-in consequence. Use it only when the relevant troubleshooting guidance calls for it and you are prepared to authenticate again.
If a matching error-specific fix does not work, Rockstar’s Basic Troubleshooting for PC, updated December 12, 2024, covers possible firewall or antivirus interference and launcher reinstallation as later options. Because the published remedies are tied to particular errors and conditions, there is no documented universal fix for every case in which the launcher keeps asking you to sign in.
