If RuneScape: Dragonwilds crashes when you choose Online while offline, update to version 1.0.0.6 or later and try again: Jagex says that update fixed this specific issue for some players. It is not a universal fix for crashes at startup, during loading, or in gameplay. For those, follow Jagex’s troubleshooting steps in order: remove mods, update your graphics driver, verify the game files, then test a new world or character.
Start with the crash trigger
Crash after selecting Online while offline
Jagex’s official RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0.0.6 patch notes, dated September 29, 2026, say: “Fixed an issue where some users would crash when selecting ‘Online’ play while being offline.” Update the game to 1.0.0.6 or later and retry that action if it matches your symptom. The note only covers this particular case; it does not say that the update fixed every PC crash.
Crash at startup, while loading, or during play
If the crash happens at another point—including a crash to desktop while trying to load in—use Jagex’s troubleshooting sequence. Change one thing at a time where practical, then retry the same action so you can tell whether it helped.
Work through Jagex’s troubleshooting steps
- Remove every mod. Jagex warns that mods can remain in the game’s Steam folder even after you uninstall the game, so uninstalling alone may not remove them. Check the installation and remove any mod files before testing again.
- Update your graphics driver. Get the driver update from your graphics-card maker or PC manufacturer. Jagex recommends updating the driver; it does not identify a particular driver version as a universal crash fix.
- Verify the game files in Steam. In your Steam Library, right-click RuneScape: Dragonwilds, open Properties, select Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Let the check complete, then launch the game again.
- Test a new world or character. If a fresh world or character works while the one you normally use crashes, note that difference when contacting support. It is a useful diagnostic comparison, not proof that a particular save file is corrupt.
Jagex’s known-issues and workarounds guidance does not establish registry edits, third-party driver-updater apps, or deleting arbitrary configuration files as crash fixes. Avoid treating those steps as official remedies.

Check whether your PC meets the published requirements
Steam lists the following specifications for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Requirements are a compatibility check, not a diagnosis: meeting them does not prove that a crash is unrelated to hardware or software, and falling below them does not identify the specific cause.

These are the specifications listed on the Steam store page. Jagex’s separate PC performance support page gives a different recommended CPU wording—AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel equivalent—and describes storage as SSD. The pages may use different wording or have been updated at different times, so check the page relevant to your installation rather than combining the two lists into one requirement.

Before considering a hardware upgrade, compare your exact processor, graphics card, memory, operating system, and available storage against the requirements. Jagex’s performance advice also includes closing unused applications, updating Windows and graphics drivers, and lowering graphics quality; these are performance measures, not guaranteed crash cures.
Capture the files Jagex requests if it still crashes
If the steps above do not resolve the crash, Jagex’s known-issues guidance asks for the log and relevant save files. Collect the log immediately after a crash, with the game closed. In Windows File Explorer, paste each path into the address bar or use the Run dialog (Windows key + R).

When reporting the issue, describe when it crashes, what you were doing immediately beforehand, whether the installation has mods, whether a new world or character behaves differently, and whether you use Steam or the Jagex Launcher. Jagex says Steam and Jagex Launcher are separate installs, so identify which one you are troubleshooting.

In a September 29, 2026 update, Jagex reported that around a thousand players across consoles and PC Game Pass were affected during the launch window by saves becoming unreadable or inaccessible after disconnecting, sleeping a console, or otherwise interrupting play. Jagex identified character appearance editing as the main culprit, said it had disabled the feature and rolled out a preventative fix, and reported that work to restore affected saves was continuing. This company-reported estimate concerns save accessibility on the stated platforms; it does not establish the cause of unrelated crashes on Steam PC.
