Nintendo’s animated short Close to You is a Pikmin short film made by Nintendo Pictures. Its first version showed a baby chasing a pacifier that seemed to move by itself; an updated version revealed Pikmin moving objects around the nursery. Nintendo has not announced a new Pikmin game, feature film or series through the statements covered here.
What happens in Close to You?
The nearly four-minute short follows a baby pursuing a pacifier around a nursery. In the October 7, 2025 version, objects appeared to move without an explanation, leaving viewers to wonder what was behind the strange activity. GameSpot described the original video and its runtime in its October 9, 2025 coverage.
Is the short connected to Pikmin?
Yes. Nintendo published an updated version on October 8, 2025, showing Pikmin moving objects in the baby’s room. That answered the mystery at the center of the original video: the creatures are responsible for the seemingly animated objects. Contemporary coverage of the update appeared at Nintendo Wire and Engadget on October 8.
Who made it, and what did Nintendo say it was for?
Nintendo’s February 2026 investor Q&A identifies Close to You as a Pikmin short movie produced by Nintendo Pictures, a Nintendo subsidiary. Nintendo had also described the two videos as Nintendo Pictures’ first short films. The studio said it would continue exploring creative possibilities through video content, framing the videos as a creative showcase rather than a product announcement. That description was reported by GamesRadar+ on October 9, 2025.

Does it confirm Pikmin 5 or a Pikmin movie?
No specific upcoming game, feature film or series was announced in Nintendo’s statements. The updated short confirms Pikmin appear in this video; it does not establish that a new game or longer production is in development. In its February 2026 investor Q&A, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said: “At this stage, we cannot say anything about the development of other movies.” Nintendo also discussed the broader range of possible video content beyond feature films, without naming a follow-up project. The Q&A is available on Nintendo’s investor relations site.
How the mystery unfolded
- October 7, 2025: Nintendo released the original Close to You, showing a baby chasing a mysteriously moving pacifier.
- October 8, 2025: An updated version showed Pikmin moving objects in the nursery.
- October 9, 2025: Nintendo described the videos as Nintendo Pictures’ first short films.
- February 2026: Nintendo’s investor Q&A formally identified the short as a Pikmin movie made by Nintendo Pictures, while offering no specific announcement about other movies.
What viewers can take from the short
The original video’s unexplained movement prompted speculation, and the Pikmin guess was borne out when Nintendo updated it. But correctly identifying the creatures is not evidence for a larger project: Nintendo’s confirmed news is a Pikmin short film from Nintendo Pictures, not a new game or feature-film announcement. Existing titles such as Pikmin 4 remain separate from this short; Nintendo has not described it as a tie-in or teaser for a particular release.
