3. Update Windows and device drivers
Install available Windows updates and check for updates to your graphics and other device drivers. Steam includes operating-system and driver updates in its general launch-failure guidance, but the available guidance does not identify a specific driver version as the cause of Subnautica startup crashes.
4. Verify Subnautica’s installed files
If game files are missing or damaged, the game may fail to launch. Steam recommends verifying the installed files as a general troubleshooting check. In Steam, open your Library, right-click Subnautica, select Properties, open Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the check to finish, then try launching the game again.

Verification can detect and replace problematic files, but it does not prove that file damage caused the crash or guarantee that the game will start. Unknown Worlds also recommended verification in older troubleshooting material, including for a particular historical terrain issue; that does not establish a universal startup-crash fix. 5. Test for a conflict with background software
Temporarily close non-essential background programs and try starting the game again. Steam includes this as a general launch check. 6. Gather details if the crash continues

- Your processor, graphics card, and installed RAM.

- Any available output or crash log.
