If eFootball feels delayed or unstable online on PS5, first check which mode you are playing: KONAMI uses peer-to-peer connections for some modes and game servers for others. Then use the in-game connection indicators and try KONAMI’s basic network countermeasures. These steps can help narrow down the problem, but they cannot guarantee a fix or identify every cause.
Why eFootball may lag online on PS5
The connection method depends on the PvP mode. In peer-to-peer (P2P) matches, the two players connect directly, so the quality and stability of both players’ connections can affect the match. In client-server matches, the game server manages the connection and match progress. KONAMI says that, in this setup, one user’s connection quality or device performance does not affect the other user’s connection. KONAMI’s Online PvP Setup guidance describes these distinctions.

That makes the mode a useful clue, not proof of what is wrong. A problem that appears in one mode but not another may relate to the connection method, but the mode list alone cannot diagnose an individual match.
Which eFootball modes use peer-to-peer or servers?
KONAMI lists the following connection methods on its support page, accessed October 8, 2026:

The Challenge Event entry differs by event type: KONAMI identifies Penalty Shootout as P2P and Challenge Events generally as client-server. These are the modes listed on the support page at the access date; the setup may change with game updates.
How to use eFootball’s connection indicators
During a client-server match
KONAMI describes the antenna icon as a real-time indication of your connection quality to the game server in client-server PvP. The level shown on your opponent’s screen may differ from yours, so different indicators do not by themselves establish which player caused a problem.

After the match
The post-match network graph shows how connection quality changed over the course of the match. Elapsed match time appears on the horizontal axis; connection-quality change appears on the vertical axis. KONAMI says higher graph values indicate greater stability. Use the graph to note whether quality appeared consistently low or changed during play, not as a definitive diagnosis of a device, player, or network fault.
What to try when eFootball is lagging on PS5
- Identify the symptom and mode. Note whether you experience delayed controls or stutter during a match, trouble finding or entering an online match, or a disconnection. Record which mode is affected and whether the issue recurs. KONAMI’s connection guidance explains PvP methods and stability, but does not provide a complete PS5 diagnosis for matchmaking failures or disconnections.
- Compare modes with different connection methods. If practical, see whether the problem is limited to a P2P mode or also occurs in a client-server mode. Treat the result as a clue rather than proof of a cause.
- Reduce local network activity. Close background apps and limit large transfers on the same Wi-Fi network. KONAMI also advises avoiding nearby devices that emit radio waves, such as microwaves.
- Try a wired LAN connection. If your PS5 currently uses Wi-Fi and can reach your router by cable, connect it through wired LAN. An Ethernet cable is one way to try this. KONAMI recommends a wired connection for consoles, but does not claim that it will fix every problem.
KONAMI cautions that various factors affect connection quality and that its suggested measures are not guaranteed to work. A wired connection, for example, cannot resolve every possible remote-server or routing problem.

Can a nearer eFootball server reduce lag?
Not necessarily. KONAMI says a closer data centre generally offers better expected connection quality, but network infrastructure also matters; a farther server can sometimes provide a better connection. The game selects servers using factors that include opponents’ locations and infrastructure conditions. The listed server locations may change, and the support guidance does not establish a way for players to force a particular city. It does not support changing DNS as a method to select a server.

Local troubleshooting cannot confirm whether KONAMI services are undergoing maintenance. Check current KONAMI notices if the issue prevents online play or affects multiple modes. Historical notices do not establish that a service incident is active now.

What this guidance does not establish
KONAMI’s cited page does not provide PS5-specific steps for NAT type, router port settings, DNS configuration, PlayStation Network checks, or individual error codes. It also gives no recommended internet speed, ping threshold, packet-loss limit, or measured improvement from using Ethernet. Avoid treating any of those values or settings as a confirmed eFootball fix based on this guidance.
