Short answer: Crisol: Theater of Idols was reported Steam Deck Verified in the developer’s June 25, 2026 Patch 1.3 announcement, which also lists Deck performance improvements and interface adjustments. A March 11 hotfix fixed a specific save-loading problem. Neither update proves every crash is fixed: if the game still closes on your Deck, the cause depends on when it happens and your system and compatibility settings.
What the Crisol updates fixed
The developer’s Patch 1.3 announcement, dated June 25, 2026, says: “Crisol is now OFFICIALLY Steam Deck Verified.” Its notes also list Steam Deck performance improvements and UI adjustments, alongside fixes for graphics-settings display and gameplay hitches. The announcement says Patch 1.3 was live across PC and consoles.
A separate developer hotfix dated March 11, 2026 addressed a save-loading issue: data layers were not loading correctly when loading a save. The developer news account said it had fixed that issue; this is a specific save-related fix, not evidence that every kind of crash has the same cause.
Patch 1.2, announced May 19, also lists a crash fix for high contrast mode and an increase to Steam Deck text size for subtitles, skills, and the main menu. That documented crash applies to the named mode; it does not explain an unrelated crash during launch or ordinary gameplay.

SteamDB’s third-party compatibility record lists a Verified test dated June 23, 2026, on build 23570714. It records SteamOS success and says the default graphics configuration performs well. This is a dated test record, not a guarantee for every device, later build, or configuration. Its metadata also recommends proton-11.0-beta, but runtime recommendations can change; do not treat that beta as a universal fix.
Start by identifying when it crashes
Note whether Crisol closes on launch, during gameplay, while loading a save, or in a particular scene or graphics mode. This helps you compare the symptom with the documented save-loading and high-contrast-mode fixes, but does not by itself identify the cause of a new crash.

- During save loading: The March 11 hotfix addressed data layers failing to load when loading a save. Confirm that the game is updated, then see whether the problem still reproduces.
- In high contrast mode: Patch 1.2 lists a crash fix for that mode. Check whether the game is updated and whether the crash is limited to that setting.
- At launch, in another scene, or at an unclear point: The cited patch notes do not establish a cause for that symptom. Continue with the general Steam Deck checks below.
Troubleshoot a crash that continues
Valve’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide gives general steps for application instability. They are useful checks, not a Crisol-specific diagnosis. Try the reversible steps first:
- Install system updates and restart. Update SteamOS through the Deck’s system settings, install any available game update, and restart the Deck before testing again.
- Temporarily disable third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode. Restart and test Crisol without them enabled. This helps rule out a possible app conflict; it does not establish that a third-party app caused the crash.
- Review the game’s Compatibility settings. In Steam, open Crisol’s properties and check its Compatibility options. If appropriate, try the latest Proton option available there. Valve notes that forcing Proton may download the Windows version if only a Linux version is installed. Proton GE is not established as an official requirement or guaranteed fix.
- Reduce graphics load if the crash appears graphics-related. Try a lower preset or reduce individual graphics settings, then test the same scene or action. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affects the symptom.
When settings changes do not solve it
The available public information does not identify the cause of an individual player’s crash or offer a confirmed remedy for every Deck setup. Before reporting the issue to the developer or Steam Support, record the details that can help narrow it down:

- Steam Deck model and SteamOS version and update channel
- Crisol build, selected Proton/runtime option, and any relevant graphics settings
- Whether the crash happens on launch, during play, while loading a save, or at a reproducible point
- Any error message and relevant logs
One Steam discussion includes a Deck player worried enough about crashing to restart after every save. Another user said Proton GE10-34 avoided crashes on their Linux desktop. These are individual reports, not a crash-rate measure or a verified Steam Deck fix; the desktop report is not evidence that the same setting works on a Deck. See the discussion in that context.
